Kanye West might be serious about his 2020 presidential run, but former president George W. Bush thinks it’s one big joke. The rapper announced his intentions to run for office last month at the MTV VMA awards and since then many other celebs have weighed in on West’s chances. But one person who seems to think we’ll never see Yeezus even stand for election is former president George W. Bush.

Kanye WestKanye West didn’t receive the best endorsement from former president George W. Bush.

When leaving a restaurant in Hollywood earlier this week, the former president was asked by TMZ photographers what he thought about West’s possible presidential run in 2020. But Bush had no words when it came to the thought of the rapper running for office and simply laughed at the question.

Bush’s reaction could be because he has a bit of a troubled past with West. Back in 2005, West accused the then president of ‘not caring about Black people’ during a Hurricane Katrina telethon. Bush later revealed in his autobiography that he had told his wife Laura at the time that the telethon was the worst moment of his presidency.

But one person who seems a bit more open to the idea of West in the White House is the current POTUS, Barack Obama. During the Democratic National Committee fundraiser last month Obama even gave Kanye some first hand advice.

“In case Kanye is serious about this whole POTUS thing, or, as Kanye calls it, ‘peezy', you’ve got to deal with strange characters who behave as if they are on a reality TV show,” Obama said. “Saying you have a beautiful dark twisted fantasy — that’s what’s known as off-message in politics,” he added referring to Kanye's 2010 album.
