The controversial rapper put in equally divisive performance of 'All Day' at the Brit Awards back in February, which had to be heavily censored by ITV.
Kanye West’s performance at the Brit Awards will not be the subject of an investigation by the media regulator Ofcom, despite the heavily-bleeped track receiving more than 150 complaints.
Back on February 25th the Brits were televised live for the first time in many years by ITV, and rapper’s new track ‘All Day’ was one of the biggest talking points of the evening. With a reported 39 uses of the ‘n’ word throughout the performance, which featured flamethrowers and a gang of hooded back-up dancers, it attracted 151 complaints.

Interestingly, the criticism seems to have been split down the middle in terms of the basis for the complaint. About half of those who lodged complaints thought ITV was wrong to censor the performance at all, while the other half found the song offensive despite the broadcaster muting the sound in each instance of the ‘n’ word.

Many fans initially thought that their televisions were malfunctioning due to the sound repeatedly cutting out and then restoring, until ITV put an “audio muted” notice on the screen to let viewers know what was happening. Ofcom cited this action, as well as a decision to broadcast with a couple of minutes’ delay in order to intercept bad language, as sufficient to let ITV off the hook.
A spokesman for Ofcom said in a statement: “We received a number of complaints that Kanye West's language, shortly after the watershed, was offensive but we will not be taking the matter forward for investigation.”
“Having carefully assessed these complaints, we noted that before the programme ITV took steps to ensure that offensive language was not used, and during the programme to mute the majority of it.”
Ant & Dec hosted the 2015 Brit Awards, which saw healthy ratings of 5.8 million viewers. The evening’s big winners were Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith who took home two trophies apiece.
