The rapper was fuming at the Grammy judges decision to award Album of the Year to Beck, but has clarified some his controversial comments from the weekend
After creating another publicity firestorm at the Grammys over the weekend, Kanye West has sought to clarify what he meant and taken back some of the things he said about Beck.
When Beck’s album Morning Phase surprisingly won Album of the Year at the ceremony, beating out multi-platinum records by the likes of Beyonce, Pharrell, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, Kanye took to the stage seeming, and afterward denounced both Beck and the Grammys to E! News for not respecting artistry. In that interview, he had said “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce, and at this point, we tired of it,” prompting masses of reaction on social media in the aftermath.
Kanye West clarified his Grammys comments in a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest
But during a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, the controversial rapper backtracked on the angry comments he made on Sunday night and offered an explanation. “The voices in my head told me to go up… …you know, I felt like just the whole Grammys, right when that happened, everybody was looking at me and then people started screaming, 'Kanye! Kanye! Go do it!' Ok, that didn’t really happen, these were voices in my head.”

When Seacrest asked him about what he’d want to say to Beck now, Kanye replied “[he] is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game… …when I said that thing about respect artistry, I think it came off the wrong way and that was a mis-wording on my part. Obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists, and respects artistry.”
Some of you will remember that Kanye has done a similar thing during an acceptance speech in the past. In 2009, he interrupted Taylor Swift’s victory at the Video Music Awards, which was also in the aftermath of Beyonce being denied an award. When Seacrest reminded him of this, not only did Kanye announce that the two had patched things up but were planning to collaborate musically in the future.
And for a bonus, Kanye quipped “Taylor Swift came up to me right afterwards, literally right afterwards, and tells me that I should have went on stage. This is the irony of my life.”
