The 37-year-old rapper explains why designing a clothing line is about much more than just style.
During a very busy New York Fashion Week, which began on February 12th, one of the most anticipated clothing lines to be unveiled was none other than Kanye West's new Adidas Original collection. But for the rap star, this project is about much more than just style.

West, the designer, first wanted to create a fashion brand that shared the "so-called good life." But he did adamantly state to Style.com, "I don't want to disrespect designers by calling myself a designer. I just think I have a vision of something that I want to do."
The 37-year-old rap star's mission is to create a stylish but affordable clothing line available for everyone. "So this is very much a Robin Hood approach I have to making clothes," he told the magazine.

"I think high fashion is about elitism and separation, and I am completely opposed to that," he continued, only two days after his Adidas collection runway show on Thursday. "If someone was to say, 'Hey, do you want to go to a high-end house now?' I'd absolutely say no. Because I'm only concerned with making beautiful products available to as many people as possible. The least I could do is spend my time trying to give other people a piece of the so-called good life. Everyone should have the good life."
Unsurprisingly, West stated releasing his own fashion line is more than just about being a designer. "There are a lot of kids in the streets that have waited for someone to speak for them and what they're doing and for them to connect with it directly," he said. "And that's what I'm here to do."

West's aim of changing elitism in the fashion industry is rather different from the outfits he and his wife, Kim Kardashian, often wear to glamorous red carpet events, so is he willing to stay away from the people behind these ridiculously expensive clothes?
"I'll still go to crash the Saint Laurent fashion show so I can be closer to the genius that Hedi (Slimane) has," he said. "Even if the prices aren't genius, even though the prices are completely unfair."
