It’s kind of weird that Kanye West and Paul McCartney had never teamed up in real life, because that duet’d be the stuff of dreams for most music lovers/critics/hipsters out there. Well, it’s happened! Behold! The ballad, released on Thursday, is called Only One and it will make you feel like you’re being sung to sleep on a bed of angel feathers. Scratch that, that sounds creepy. But it’s really good.

The collaboration is part of a larger musical project for West and McCartney.

The song is written from the perspective of West’s mother Donda, with McCartney accompanying on piano. It’s all very acoustic and endearing.

"Remember how I'd say one day/You'll be the man you always knew you would be," West's Auto-Tuned voice sings. "And if you knew how proud I was/You'd never shed a tear/Have a fear/No you wouldn't do that." McCartney, for his part, eschew any histrionics in favor of a simple and plaintive style befitting the emotional lyrics.

As of Wednesday, the track is available on iTunes and you can also listen to it on Ye’s website (or via one of the numerous youtube uploads, before they’re mercilessly taken down by The Man).

Apparently, the surprise track marks the start of a beautiful musical collaboration - maybe even an album. According to a spokesperson for West, via Rolling Stone, Only One is the first "publicly available recording from what has become a prolific musical collaboration between these two legendary artists."
