Rapper Kanye West Is Asking A Judge To Dismiss An Infringement Lawsuit From Members Of Latin Band Loisaidas Over The Name Of The Hip-hop Heavyweight's New Film.
Singer Michael Medina, one half of New York-based duo Loisaidas, sued the Stronger hitmaker and rap mogul Damon Dash in April (15) over their recently-announced movie Loisaidas - a nickname for New York City's Lower East Side.
Medina claims West and Dash are infringing and devaluing his act's name due to the violence and drug dealing themes in the movie.
He has asked a judge to put a stop to their planned project and pay damages, but West is asking for the lawsuit to be thrown out, insisting the Latin duo does not own the term, which has been used in several projects since it was coined in the 1970s.
West is also asking for his attorney's fees to be paid, according to TheJasmineBrand.com.
