Leicester City fans Kasabian have announced plans for a huge, one-off gig at the club’s stadium next month, in celebration of the team’s extraordinary season.

The Midlands football club, known as the Foxes, stand on the brink of one of the most astonishing and unlikely achievements in sporting history, as the 5,000-1 rank outsiders are just one victory away from winning the English Premier League.

However, win or lose – and it seems increasingly likely that it will be a win – the indie rock group, who hail from the city, will perform in front of 30,000 fans at the club’s King Power Stadium on May 28th. Tickets go on sale this Saturday (April 30th).

Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, the group’s guitarist and chief songwriter Serge Pizzorno and singer Tom Meighan spoke about their plans on Thursday (April 29th) for the concert, which would take place two weeks after Leicester’s season ends at Chelsea on May 15th.

“There's such an energy in the city at the minute,” he said. “In a way it feels like we're almost centre of the universe. Everyone is watching. We've always wanted to play at the King Power and after this season… we had to do it.”

Slightly premature to announce a triumphant homecoming gig, which would be a rather damp squib if Leicester don’t in fact win the league, some might say, but Kasabian are intent on celebrating this most unlikely of seasons in any event, with the club already secure in the knowledge of playing European football next year.

“No matter how it goes, we're going to need a place to all stand together and reflect on what's happened, because it is just unbelievable. In the stadium, with us playing the music. There is no better way. We're so proud.”
