Having released the track digitally at the start of May, Kasabian now make the video for their latest single 'God Bless This Acid House' available to watch. Kasabian's latest record 'For Crying Out Loud' is their sixth studio album and it was produced by the band's own Sergio Pizzorno. Though the band have recorded with many acclaimed producers in the past, this mentality of doing as much as possible in-house is exactly how the band started out.
Speaking about the early years of recording, Sergio explains: "Those early innocent days of us not really knowing what we were doing, we knew we had to rehearse work really hard - that's kind of built into you from where we're from." The guitarist then explains how the band originally got into recording their own material: "We had a significant moment when I got a computer and that enabled us to make music rather than go into a studio. Before it was about saving some money, a sh*t load on wages that none of us had and go to a studio to work with someone who makes us sound exactly like every other band in the world. When we were in control of the production side of things, it clicked and we realised what we were trying to do. Back then [we were like] what would DJ Shadow sound like if he were in a rock 'n' roll band.
The video was directed by Andrew Whiston AKA WIZ who previously worked with the band on the video for 'You're In Love With A Psycho'. Set up as a live gig style video, the footage starts with the band, clad in jailhouse wear, are introduced to the stage of a small backroom style venue.
"The core of what we do is the live show" says Sergio Pizzorno and that's the fundamental element that's continued throughout Kasabian's twenty year career, the Leicester born band began their early years performing at their local 200 capacity venue The Shed - now, two decades on the band will headline the Leeds & Reading Festival for the second time.
The band never had a backup plan, they set up when they were at school and this was the only thing the band ever wanted to do. Lead vocalist Tom Meighan explains: "We wanted it to be our lives, we never thought of anything outside our little box of music because we weren't at University and we never had the thought of 'well, if this doesn't work we'll have a career in something else.' We lived and breathed rock 'n' roll."
