Veteran singer Kate Bush has edged out Adele to land the top pop prize at Britain's 2012 South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
The Rolling in the Deep hitmaker has dominated the music industry's various awards shows since the release of her hugely successful album 21, but she had to concede defeat at the London ceremony on Tuesday (01May12) when Bush's 50 Words for Snow was named the Best Album winner.
In the film category, Tilda Swinton's dark drama We Need To Talk About Kevin triumphed over Attack The Block and the critically-acclaimed Formula 1 documentary Senna, while West End musical Matilda was named Best Theatre Production, and U.K. series Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous sleuth, was awarded Best TV Drama.
The South Bank Sky Arts Awards, hosted by Lord Melvyn Bragg, also recognises excellence in dance, opera and classical music categories.
