Mother of eight provides ratings bump for new season preview
Kate Gosselin equals ratings! At least if you’re the bosses of Celebrity Wife Swap, who must be rubbing their hands with glee after the appearance of the mother of eight on the show led to a huge ratings boon for them.
Gosselin appeared on the show, as did Playboy pin-up Kendra Wilkinson, with viewership showing the result. Entertainment Weekly reports that the show was seen by 7 million viewers, and had a rating of 2.4, among adults in the all-important 18-49 demographic. The Celebrity Wifeswap show is a preview before the regular season gets underway, and this year’s was 4% up on the previous one, and 14% up on the first episode of the regular season that aired last year. Next week promises to be fascinating too, with ‘wives’ Coolio and Mark McGrath doing a swap.
For Wilkinson it was quite the sea change. Used to a luxurious life with her sports star husband Hank Baskett and her two year old kid, ABC reports that Wilkinson rose to the challenge of looking after eight kids – and found them inspiring in their own way. “These kids have so many jobs to do. I’m a big believer in a kid being a kid. This is so hard.” Gosselin, being the one who inflicted that structure on the kids, attempted to do the same on Wilkinson’s, saying “It’s like he’s craving structure,” of her son. Ultimately though, both seemed relieved to return to their own families.
