Kate Moss turns 40 soon, and so to celebrate that she is doing something that few other 40-year-old women would consider; stripping down to her birthday suit for a front cover shoot for Playboy magazine. The iconic model has agreed to bare all for the magazine's 60th Anniversary edition, which will hit shelves in December.

The British supermodel reaches the landmark birthday on January 16, just before her nude body is printed and published across the world for the celebratory issue of Playboy. Moss, who regularly commands seven-figure sums for her modelling duties, was confirmed as the cover model for the diamond anniversary edition of the magazine on Tuesday, by magazine founder Hugh Hefner himself. He told the Los Angeles Times, "She's a worldwide celebrity and iconic and crosses the boundaries from sexual imagry to upscale modelling."

"This is a massive global brand," Playboy’s editorial director, Jimmy Jellinek said of the magazine. "You need a global icon in order to celebrate that — that was the impetus. You’re talking about the face of Burberry, the biggest supermodel in the world on the cover of Playboy. She’s the perfect partner for us to help launch the next 60 years."

Moss now joins the ranks of fellow full-frontal supermodels, who were willing to bare all for the magazine. In the past, high ranking fashionistas including Cindy Crawford, Elle MacPherson, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Stephanie Seymour and Eva Herzigova have all taken it all off for the magazine.

With her 'heroin-chic' look, Moss goes against the grain of the conventional Playboy model, and when rumours first emerged that Moss would be baring all for the magazine earlier this year, many shot it down as being highly unlikely given her look, which is nothing like that of the more buxom models that usual grace the magazine's pages. It was in June this year when her hairdresser, Oribe Canales, accidentally let it split that he had worked with the model on the shoot. Jellinek continued, "This creates a heat for the brand globally. It started with Marilyn Monroe on the cover of Playboy 60 years ago, an icon for her time. Now we've got Kate Moss!"
