Kate Winslet has married for the third time.

The 37-year-old actress tired the knot with her partner Ned RocknRoll, 38, in an intimate ceremony earlier this month in New York.

A source revealed to The Sun newspaper: ''It was a really romantic, private ceremony.''

The couple invited 12 guests to join them at their wedding, which was held in a converted barn, and Kate's 'Titanic' co-star Leonardo Dicaprio gave her away at the very private ceremony, while their families were kept in the dark.

An insider said: ''Kate and Ned got married in a really romantic and private ceremony. They had been planning it for a while. They are both so happy and very much in love. Kate is very private and didn't want anyone to know.

''She asked if Leo would give her away because they are best friends.''

A spokesperson for Kate - who has daughter Mia, 12, with first husband Jim Threapleton and son Joe, nine, with second spouse Sam Mendes - confirmed the star's marriage, however her father Roger responded to a question about it by saying: ''What are you going on about?''

Although Ned's family were also shocked by the news, his father was less surprised at their secretive actions, revealing: ''It's not something I know of - but nothing would surprise me with those two.''

Kate and Ned - who has changed his name from Abel Smith - dated for a year before getting engaged this summer, and friends think the pair are perfect for each other.

A close pal said: ''Kate has never looked so happy. Since she and Ned got together it has been full steam ahead.

''Marriage has always been on the cards and they've been talking about doing it for the last couple of months.''
