Katherine Jenkins has been announced as one of the twelve celebrities taking part in the upcoming series of Dancing With The Stars. The famed Welsh opera singer recently split from her fiance Gethin Jones and the Daily Mail have suggested that her appearance on the show will be part of her plan to crack America with her singing career.
Among the stars joining Katherine will be the soul singer Gladys Knight, the singer-songwriter Gavin Degraw, the actors Jack Wagner, Melissa Gilbert and Jaleel White and the Extra presenter Maria Menounos. The tennis legend Martina Navratilova is also on board for the show. 20 year old Roshin Fegan also joins the line-up, with The View's Sherri Shepherd and the Cuban-born William Levy. The announcement about this year's stars was made on Good Morning America today (February 28, 2012).
Katherine Jenkins is no stranger to Dancing with the Stars. In February 2011, she sang live on the show. She's also no stranger to dancing, having performed onstage with Darcey Bussell in 2009 in the singing-and-dancing Viva La Diva. The 31 year-old opera singer has sold over 4 million copies of her albums since she released her debut in 2004. The release of that first album, Premiere, made her the fastest selling mezzo-soprano of all time, to date. She became engaged to her partner Gethin Jones in February 2011 but the couple announced their split in December that year.
