Kathy Griffin (born 4.11.1960)
Kathy Griffin is an American stand-up comedian, actress and TV personality. She first became known for her appearances in the popular sitcom Seinfeld.
Kathy Griffin: Childhood
Kathy Griffin was born in Oak Park, Illinois, to first-generation Irish-Americans. She attended St. Bernadine's Elementary School where she developed her dislike of organized religion. She then studied at Oak Park River High School, where she became interested in musical theatre and performed in Fiddler on the Roof, amongst other productions.
Kathy Griffin: Career
Kathy Griffin started performing in the 1980s, when she joined an improvisational comedy troupe, The Groundlings after she failed to get noticed in more mainstream theatrical circles.
Griffin then went on to perform stand-up comedy in the alternative comedy scene in Los Angeles and went on to develop her own show on HBO in 1998, called 'Hot Cup of Talk'.
In 1994, Kathy Griffin appeared in the classic Pulp Fiction when she plays the role of a pedestrian who tries to help Ving Rhames' character (Marcellus Wallace) after Bruce Willis (Butch Coolidge) runs him over with his car. She then went on to play the role of Connie in The Unborn, alongside Brooke Adams. Griffin's appearances on TV then began to increase in regularity, with two appearances in Fresh Prince of Bel Air, a Showtime parody of Madonna's Truth or Dare, entitled Medusa: Dare to be Truthful and a role in Bob Goldthwait's Shakes the Clown. She also appeared as the leader of a car club in an episode of Ellen in 1996, as well as a dual role in X-Files, alongside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Griffin also featured as a fashion channel reporter in Ugly Betty.
It was in 1996 that Kathy Griffin started gaining serious airtime, when she was cast as Brooke Shields' colleague in Suddenly Susan. She also landed a one-hour special on HBO, entitled Kathy Griffin: A Hot Cup of Talk. Between 1996 and 1998, she played the role of Sally Weaver in Seinfeld, which also earned her a degree of recognition.
In 2009, Kathy Griffin topped the New York Times Bestseller List with her memoir, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin. She also released a Grammy-nominated album, Sucking it for the Holidays.
Kathy has hosted CNN's New Year's Eve Broadcast for three years running, between 2009 - 11. In 2009 she landed herself in trouble for swearing on air and in 2011 she caused controversy for stripping to her underwear during the show.
In March 2011, Kathy Griffin guest starred in an episode of Glee, playing the role of a Regionals competition judge.
Griffin's stand-up shows often court attention for their no-nonsense style and for her love of mocking celebrities and people in the public eye. In the past, her 'victims' have included Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan. She has been compared to other controversial stars such as Howard Stern and she has claimed to have been banned from several mainstream TV shows, such as The View (which she temporarily co-hosted in 2007) and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In 2005, she was banned from taking part in E!'s red carpet TV coverage when she made a joke that the child actress Dakota Fanning (aged 11 at the time) had entered rehab.
Kathy Griffin: Personal Life
Griffin is an advocate for LGBT right, as well as being a vocal supporter for same sex marriage.
In 2001, Kathy Griffin married Matt Moline, on top of the 360 Degree Restaurant in Hollywood. Brooke Shields was her maid of honour. The pair divorced, after a number of separations and she had her tattooed wedding ring removed by laser treatment. She later accused Moline of stealing $72,000 from her.
In 2007, Kathy Griffin attended the Emmy Awards with Steve Wozniak, one of the founders of Apple. They stopped dating the following year.
In March 2011, Kathy Griffin announced, on the Howard Stern radio show, that she was romantically involved with Isaiah Mustafa. Mustafa went on to say that he was, in fact, single.
10 months on from the backlash that threatened to end her career, Griffin is hitting the comeback trail in her homeland.
Nearly a year after she suffered a huge career backlash in the wake of the notorious ‘severed head’ photos of Donald Trump, comedian Kathy Griffin has announced her comeback with her first American tour dates since that incident.
Having kept a low profile for most of the last 12 months, ever since the images of herself holding up a fake, bloody ‘severed head’ of President Trump went viral last May, the star appeared on Friday night’s ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ (March 9th). The 57 year old announced that she was hitting the comeback trail in the States, having spent the end of 2017 and the start of 2018 working in Europe.
Griffin has booked shows at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and at Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, which she described as “Trump’s backyard”.
Griffin is plotting a comeback in the States after suffering a severe backlash in 2017 over the controversial photoshoot.
Kathy Griffin has recalled the infamous ‘severed Trump head’ incident that saw her blackballed last year, as she prepares to hit the comeback trail and resurrect her career.
The 57 year old comedienne spoke to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday (January 31st) about how she’s planning to recover from a tumultuous year, nine months on from the incident in which she posed with a fake severed head of controversial president Donald Trump.
In the aftermath of the now-notorious photoshoot with Tyler Shields back in May 2017, Griffin faced serious public backlash from both sides of the divide on Trump when the images went viral. The star apologised, saying that she went “way too far”, but then after the opprobrium continued and she almost lost her career, she then went back on her contrition.

Jeffrey Mezger, CEO and chairman of KB Home, was caught on camera launching a foul-mouthed outburst at his neighbours, Griffin and her partner Randy Bick.
The CEO of KB Home, one of America’s biggest homebuilding companies, has been left red-faced after being caught on tape hurling foul-mouthed abuse at his neighbour, famous comedian Kathy Griffin.
The rant was recorded last Saturday (September 16th), and is believed to be over a noise complaint filed by Randy Bick, Griffin’s long-term partner and who lives next door to Jeffery Mezger, according to The Huffington Post.
“Hey Randy, go f*** yourself,” steamed KB Home’s CEO and chairman Mezger, who was captured on audio-enabled security camera footage as he unleashed his tirade from his property last weekend in Los Angeles.
She's really starting to lose it with the US President.
It's been three months since Kathy Griffin apologised for her controversial anti-Trump photoshoot, during which she's had time to reflect on her actions. And now she's decided that she's not actually sorry at all. But she has some very good reasons why she's retracting that apology.

Back in May, celebrity photographer Tyler Shields shot pictures of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a bloody fake head resembling that of President Donald Trump. Understandably, there was immediate backlash over the idea of her endorsing an assassination, but she eventually apologised and removed the images, conceding that she had gone 'way too far'.

New York Magazine journalist Yashar Ali claimed that Griffin was interviewed as part of the investigation, which has still not concluded.
The fallout from Kathy Griffin’s controversial photoshoot that featured her with a severed ‘President Trump’ head is continuing, with a new claim that the comedienne was interviewed by the Secret Service.
The 56 year old star landed herself in hot water a couple of months ago when she posed for a photoshoot with celeb photographer Tyler Shields, in which she held aloft a fake ‘severed head’ of current President Donald Trump. It lost Griffin her regular gig as the host of CNN’s New Year programming, and caused a huge backlash in the U.S. as people’s opinions were divided.
Now, New York Magazine writer Yashar Ali has sensationally claimed that Griffin was interviewed and interrogated for over an hour by the Secret Service as part of the investigation, which has still not concluded.
