Is Tom Cruise Heading Down The Aisle For A Fourth Time?

Tom Cruise Katie Holmes Nicole Kidman

When Hollywood actor Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes many saw an emerging pattern of the Mission Impossible superstar getting hitched with younger and younger women every time he walked down the aisle. And, as the rumours of marriage number 4 continue to swirl, that trend does not look like it’s going to change anytime soon as his relationship with his 22-year-old British assistant begins to hot up.

Mission Impossible: Rogue NationTom Cruise takes on the role of Ethan Hawke for a fifth time in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation

Emily Thomas has been working as the star’s assistant since last year and, with a 31 year age gap between the two, this could be Cruise’s youngest bride yet.

Woman In Gold Review

Very Good

This fascinating true story is strong enough to hold up against the formulaic Hollywood treatment, boosted by another riveting performance from Helen Mirren. She adds some badly needed prickly humour to the film, which continually resorts to unsophisticated sentimentality as it traces a remarkable series of real events. And it helps that the story has some intriguing things to say about both art and history.

It opens in 1998 Los Angeles, where Maria Altmann (Mirren) has discovered some documents in her late sister's belongings that refer to a beloved portrait of their Aunt Adele (Antje Traue in flashbacks). The problem is that the painting is Gustav Klimt's Woman in Gold, which is regarded as the "Mona Lisa of Austria" and held in pride of place in the national gallery. Since Austria has begun restoring art stolen from its citizens by the Nazis, Maria hires novice family-friend lawyer Randy Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), who quickly realises the futility of the case. But they travel to Vienna to begin the process, getting some help navigating the system from local journalist Hubertus (Daniel Bruhl). Sure enough, the Austrian government fights Maria at every step of the way.

The compelling argument in this film is that if Austria acknowledges that this national treasure was stolen, it implicates the government and the population in complicity with the Nazis. And that's something no one is willing to do. There's also of course the issue of greed, since Woman in Gold is worth $100 million. But Maria's simple question is why the painting's value or status matter when its true ownership is so clear. Director Simon Curtis and writer Alexi Kaye Campbell wisely dash through the series of hearings, court cases and appeals, while emphasising this undeniable fact of the case. Although this also simplifies most scenes into little more than "Nazis bad, Jews good". While the flashbacks to Maria's past are moving and informative, Randy's sideplots feel irrelevant and undercooked, featuring his pregnant wife (Katie Holmes) and sardonic boss (Charles Dance).

Has Katie Holmes Been Secretly Dating Jamie Foxx For Two Years?

Katie Holmes Jamie Foxx Tom Cruise

It’s been nearly three years since Katie Holmes’ marriage to Tom Cruise ended and following her high profile divorce the former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star has kept understandably quiet about her love life. But according to a story in this week’s US Weekly, things have been anything but quiet for Holmes on the romance front, as she’s reportedly been seeing actor Jamie Foxx for nearly two years.

Woman In Gold - Trailer And Clips

When the Nazis took over Vienna prior to the Second World War, they stole countless, priceless artefacts. One of these artefacts was the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, and an Austrian Holocaust survivor has the perfect claim to it. Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren) hires Randol Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), a lawyer of Austrian decent, to help her become once again acquainted with the famous painting of her aunt. The problem is, that the painting is held in a Vienna art gallery, and the Austrian government are adamant in keeping the national treasure. Altmann, on the other hand, is desperate to get back what is rightfully hers.

Beyond Clueless Review

Excellent

With clips from more than 200 teen movies made in the decade after 1995's Clueless, this lively kaleidoscopic documentary entertainingly traces how America has depicted the teen experience on screen. The film's structure feels a little deliberate, and it of course is looking at a portrayal of puberty, not the real thing. But it's inventively edited by first-time feature director Charlie Lyne, with a snappy pace and some seriously interesting observations along the way.

These 10 years are significant because they marked an expansion in the style of coming-of-age movies, encompassing genres from comedy to sci-fi to horror to explore the clashes between high school factions of jocks, nerds, burnouts, artists and mean girls. Taken together, these films paint a vivid, perhaps exaggerated portrait of adolescence, including key rites of passage, the mob mentality, and the various things that feel threatening to the "herd" (like smart kids or loners). High school is the time when teens experiment with alcohol, partying, rebellion and sex, while facing up to peer pressure and their own mortality for the first time. And ultimately, everyone must navigate this emotionally overwrought period on his or her own.

The film breaks down this experience into five chapters: fitting in (as either a maverick or conformist), acting out (challenging the rules), losing yourself (developing your own identity), toeing the line (being forced to obey the rules) and moving on (growing into an adult). This kind of makes the movie feel like an academic thesis, especially with the somewhat overwritten narration (voiced by teen star Fairuza Balk). But the movie is packed with telling connections between this vast variety of movies, all of which reflect reality without ever depicting it too honestly. Thankfully, Lyne's editing is knowing and often very funny, putting scenes together to say something completely unexpected.

The Giver Review

Good

Yet another teen sci-fi adventure, this movie may be sharply well-made but it struggles to find anything to say to an audience that has explored these themes much more meaningfully in films like The Hunger Games and Divergent. A solid cast makes it watchable, but a swelling flood of sentimentality undermines everything. And there isn't much subtext there to begin with.

Set in the distant future, society has rebuilt itself after "The Ruin" by eliminating all emotions, memories and art. The story centres on 18-year-old Jonas (BrentonThwaites), who is stunned to be selected as the next Receiver of Memories, working with the Giver (Jeff Bridges) to understand everything the elders have deliberately obliterated through both daily drug injections and some sort of magical barrier beyond the surrounding, forbidden mist. But the Chief Elder (Meryl Streep) is worried that Jonas is going rogue with his new knowledge, and Jonas' parents (Alexander Skarsgard and Katie Holmes) are also noticing something is amiss. So when Jonas tries to enlist his childhood pals Fiona and Asher (Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan) in small acts of rebellion, things come to a head.

Director Phillip Noyce creates a terrific visual look for the film's setting, with slickly designed sets,eye-catching effects and a colour scheme that begins in black and white and slowly adds hues as Jonas discovers more truth. But nothing about this society resonates: the best science-fiction tells us something about our world here and now, but parallels are very hard to spot in this faux utopia. Instead, we are faced with an implausible set-up that tries to convince us that people would mindlessly carry on without emotional or physical connections. And the idea that deleting these from human existence would make for a more peaceful society is just silly. Sure, we'd all like a world without violence and bigotry, but at the expense of personal freedom?

Who Is The Young Actor Brenton Thwaites?

Brenton Thwaites Philip Noyce Katie Holmes Jeff Bridges Meryl Streep Taylor Swift

An impressive cast of screen veterans, promising young newcomers, a multi-millions selling pop star and Katie Holmes have assembled for the dystopian sci-fi pic The Giver, due for imminent release. Of course, a PG-13 sci-fi film aimed at the vast Hunger Games young-adult audience wouldn’t be complete without a handsome hunk occupying the leading role. Curiously, and perhaps bravely on the part of director Philip Noyce (The Bone Collector, Patriot Games), the lead role has gone to a youngster who is relatively rookie in the big screen business.

Brenton Thwaites The Giver PremiereThwaites is poised to ascend towards the accolade of Hollywood hunk.

Brenton Thwaites can almost guarantee to find himself in every adolescent female magazine’s ‘Hottest Guys’ list. 25 years old, permanently tanned from the Aussie sun and still sporting boyish good looks the young Australian will appear alongside screen heavyweights Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in the futuristic thriller. The Giver carries a wide appeal for audiences who are currently in thrall to dystopian action films. Thwaites will surely ascend to greater status in the industry and extend his fanbase beyond the growing army of teenage devotees.

The stars turned out at Barclays Center last night for Marvel Universe Live! – an action-packed live show that will tour arenas in 85 US cities over the next two years and features more than 25 Marvel superheroes and villains in an original story.

The show, having made a solid start, is sure to sell out those nationwide arenas, especially with Marvel’s film franchises performing so well at box offices over the past decade. But different movie studios have the rights to use various characters, which means there is only one way fans can see all of them in one show.

"Marvel Universe Live is the first and only place where you can see The Avengers, Spiderman, and members of The X-Team come together," said producer Juliette Feld. "I grew up around Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus and Disney On Ice, and I've always had a love for it. You know I'm very lucky because I get to work alongside my dad and my sister," she added.

Katie Holmes Jean Reno Tom Cruise Allison Janney Cameron Diaz Ryan Reynolds Helen Mirren

As the former wife of one of Hollywood’s most prolific and instantly recognisable screen icons, it is to be expected that Katie Holmes marriage to Tom Cruise will define much of her career for many years to come. Katie Holmes Attends Met GalaKatie Holmes is attempting to re-establish herself as an actress.

The series, which details the lives of four teenagers through their growing pangs and adolescent tribulations ran for six seasons and 128 episodes, leaving Katie’s turn as the character Joey Potter left burned onto the minds of much of the American public.
