Katie Holmes is ''excited'' by work.

The 35-year-old actress - who is set to make her directorial debut in the coming of age film 'All We Had', based on the book by Annie Weatherwax - confessed she is nervous about taking on the challenge but can't wait to get started and make her mark on the movie.

She said on Good Morning America earlier today (10.11.14): ''I'm excited, I'm going to direct my first movie. I found this book and optioned it and I have a writer writing it for me.

''I'm excited! It should be a huge challenge, but worth it.''

The busy brunette beauty - who has an eight-year-old daughter Suri with her ex-husband Tom Cruise - recently confessed to hiring help to care for Suri after struggling to juggle motherhood and work commitments in the past, although Katie insists she tries to spend as much time as she can with the youngster.

She said: ''You do the best you can. Some days you feel really good about yourself and some days you don't.

''You really need to support each other, help people through whatever it is they're going through -- whether it's: 'My kid just threw a tantrum' or 'I was late for graduation' or whatever it is, you know!''

''I do have help yes, but it's your baby, you know? You want to be the one who was there.''
