Fresh from the advanced release of her new song 'Roar,' Katy Perry already has a new song out; a duet with her on-again-off-again lover John Mayer. 'Who You Love' is taken from Mayer's upcoming sixth studio album, Paradise Valley (out August 20), and made it's way online after being premiered on 'The Morning Mash Up,' the live SiriusXM Hits 1 show hosted by Nicole Biggins, on Monday 12 August.

Mayer will release his new album later this month

"My girl, she ain't the one that I saw coming/ Sometimes I don't know which way to go/ And I tried to run before but I'm not running anymore/ Cuz I fought against it hard enough to know/ That you love who you love who you love," sings Mayer, in a possible reference to his reluctance to settle down with Perry in the past. Perry then follows with the line, "My boy, he ain't the one that I saw coming/And some have said his heart's too hard to hold/ And he takes a little time but you should see him when he shines/ Cuz you never want to let the feeling go."

The track itself is nothing spectacular, a bit repetitive lyrically and sounding like your standard poppy ballad with a tinge of country and some horns towards the end, but what makes the song such an attention-gabber is the connection Mayer and Perry share on the mic. This emotion is encapsulated in the little giggle Katy does towards the end of the song. After the airing of the song on Biggins' show, the DJ asked Perry about said giggle, to which the singer responded, "I think that's just a love giggle," explaining, "It's like the ones that Mariah Carey had in 1990 and stuff like that...Yeah I think I was going for that, I think I was just so happy, I love that song... It's very humanizing. It's like the real moment, you're catching the real moment there."

Perry has her own new material coming out soon

Perry and Mayer have been dating on-and-off since summer 2012, and currently we're not entirely sure what stage of their relationship they are in. The release of the duet has fuelled speculation that the pair are together once again, however others have commented that the pair recorded the duet a while ago and are still on a break from each other. The two both have pretty hectic schedules at the moment, with Perry releasing the new track 'Roar' and readying herself to release her long-awaited new album, Prism, whilst Mayer also has his upcoming album release to work with. At a guess, we'd have to say the two are still on a break, but it might not be for much longer...
