The single is Katy’s first new music since the release of her album ‘Prism’ in 2013.
Katy Perry has taken fans by surprise by dropping brand new single ‘Rise’, her first new music in nearly three years. The track is the anthem for NBC's coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics which begin in Rio de Janeiro next month.
Sharing the song on twitter Perry wrote, "TOGETHER WE #RISE”. The single’s artwork carries on the Olympic theme and features Perry in a swimming pool with just her eyes above the water. In a statement the singer said: “This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface.”

“I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite. I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world.”
“I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather together in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together.”
The release of the track comes just a day after Perry’s alleged feud with Taylor Swift was seemingly reignited. Perry and Swift’s beef was referenced on twitter by Swift’s ex Calvin Harris, when he wrote: “I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it.”
