The Make Roar Happen project will raise funds to provide materials for teachers and students. The venture is in conjunction with Staples, who have emphasised their long term commitment to teachers. Speaking to the WSJ, Staples executive Alison Corcoran said "Make Roar Happen with Katy Perry builds on Staples' commitment to teachers in a new and engaging way." Publicity was evidently the motivation behind the unlikely collaboration and Corcoran also emphasised the importance of using Perry's influential position. She said "With music that inspires people worldwide, Katy Perry is a powerful voice to encourage people to 'Roar' and recognize teachers for their impact both inside and outside the classroom. Our $1 million donation will help teachers supply their classrooms just in time for back to school."

At the event, Perry spoke of her reasons behind her support of an educational charity. The 'Roar' singer claimed education was part and parcel of the American dream, as CBS reports. She said "I'm an American girl that had a dream, executed a dream, came from nothing, and that really is the American dream. I'm happy to be that example and hopefully inspire other people to do that." Perry continued by stating her belief in the importance of education, especially for women. She said "I really believe knowledge is power, especially for females. I feel like our education makes us more confident."
