Country: Portraits Of An American Sound Trailer

Country music has long been associated as a storytelling journey, but the evolution of the country sound has been made most obvious not by the music but by the image. There was a time when arenas would sparkle from all the rhinestones and when stetsons were a must-have. Then Johnny Cash brought his man in black phase into the mix, and with it a rebellion that few had seen before amongst those of that genre. Pretty soon it was all about carving out your own niche, fixing your own trademark look; whether it was Kenny Rogers and his white three-piece suits, or Tanya Tucker with her 'badgirl' catsuits and tight pants. Pictures from the mutation of country music throughout the last eight decades are perhaps some of the most telling because something about the looks of these country stars had as much of an impact as the music itself.

Nicole Kidman Reveals Jimmy Fallon Missed A Second Chance To Date Her

Nicole Kidman Jimmy Fallon Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman stopped by ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ on Thursday for another awkward interview with the talk show host, who she once went on a bad date with.

During an appearance on the show in January of last year, Kidman had revealed her and Fallon once went on a date, but the funnyman didn’t realise it was a romantic set up.

Describing the evening Kidman said: “You wouldn’t say anything, and then you put a video game on or something...and so after about an hour and a half, I thought, ‘He has no interest, this is so embarrassing’ and then I was like, ‘Maybe he’s gay.’”

American Idol Recap: Anniversary And Homecoming

American Idol Jennifer Lopez Keith Urban Randy Jackson

Things are coming to a head on this week’s episode of American Idol. The finale is next week, so naturally, the contestants are pulling out all the stops at this point. To top it all off, Caleb Johnson, Alex Preston and Jenna Irene also had the added pressure of performing on the show’s 500th episode. No biggie.

Caleb Johnson
Despite his vocal issues, Caleb Johnson delivered a couple of showstopping performances.

To amp up the nostalgic spirit, the show kicked off with a montage of the greatest moments in Idol history. There was Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aken , the transformation of Clay Aiken, KEITH!, William Hung  Bikini Girl (?) and even a video of Simon Cowell that time he was spot on about Carrie Undewood’s record sales. Ah, the good old days.

"American Idol" Recap: The Top 10 Sing, Sort Of.

American Idol Jennifer Lopez Keith Urban Harry Connick Jr.

Last night’s American Idol can be summed up in one word: disappointing. It all started when MK Nobilette kicked things off with a rendition of Perfect by Pink. She had the emotion down, only her performance fell apart when she walked out on stage and she just didn’t recover after that.

Dexter Roberts covering Floriga Georgia Line’s “Cruise” was anything but. Not that he was bad, specifically. He was just there. Which is not what we’ve come to expect from the otherwise perky Dexter.

Dexter Roberts' performance was not one of the highlights.

This week might be the first American Idol round in a while to see an actual twist – and it’s still just the second round of eliminations. The unfortunate Idol wannabe to end up on the chopping block was Emily Piriz, despite getting almost rave reviews for her performance of Jennifer LopezLet’s Get Loud the night before. The other two contestants to end up in the bottom three were Jena Irene and MK Nobilette, who had to sing for her life for the second week in a row.

American Idol "This Is Me" Night Makes Us Think "This Is Familiar"

American Idol Jennifer Lopez Keith Urban Harry Connick Jr.

Last night, American Idol entered its slightly less interesting stage – with the top 13 contestants selected, it’s time to actually remember the names and watch the dwindling group of people for two more months. Hence, last night’s “This Is Me” theme served as the introduction round.

Much like the name games at teambuilding meetings, it was not interesting as intended and many failed to stick out. Kicking things off with the classic “acoustic guitar and moody spotlight” routine, Dexter Roberts’ rendition of Aw Naw by Chris Young was good… just not memorable enough. Judge Keith Urban felt that Roberts failed to “make the song his own” and with it might cost him in the future. Malaya Watson performed a good cover of Bruno Mars’ Runaway Baby. That was it – good. The performance derailed slightly toward the end, but she still got an A+ out of the goodness of Jennifer Lopez’ heart.

Randy Jackson Thinks "American Idol" Is Out Of The Woods, Ratings Beg To Differ

Randy Jackson thinks American Idol is regaining its form. Sure, the head mentor of the original TV singing competition has a vested interest in promoting the show regardless of its quality, but he really thinks it’s good again, honest. Jackson admitted in a conference call that by last season, Idol was getting a little bit stale. But it got a revamp and now everything is ok. Right…

Jackson thinks the show got the much needed kick in the rear this season.

“But now it’s Idol 2.0,” he said. “It needed a refresh, and it got it.”

Nicole Kidman Talks Tom Cruise Marriage And Her "Great Love" Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman Tom Cruise Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman is the cover girl for Vanity Fair's December issue and in the exclusive interview she talks about her previous marriage to fellow actor Tom Cruise.

Tom and Nicole married each other on Christmas Eve in 1990, it lasted for 11 years before they divorced in 2001 due to Cruise citing 'irreconcilable differences'.

11 years could be considered as a long marriage in the world of showbiz and especially since their relationship was subject to intense media scrutiny, it seems that much more impressive.

Nicole Kidman Recalls Her "Intoxicating" Marriage To Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman Tom Cruise Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman features as the cover girl for the next issue of Vanity Fair magazine, striking a pose that echoes the former glamour of Princess Grace of Monaco, who Nicole will be portraying on film in an upcoming biopic about the late Hollywood royalty turned actual royalty. In her interview, she didn't just discuss her role and the late Princess, as she also discussed ehr relationship to current husband Keith Urban and former husband Tom Cruise at length too.

It was a revealing and informative chat from Kidman, who is clearly relishing her role as Princess Grace, not to mention her current love life with country star Urban, who recently spoke to Ellen DeGeneres about their use of sexting to make it through long periods of separation. But it was when she began discussing her previous husband, Tom Cruise, when things began to get a little more juicy, as she recalled their "intoxicating" love for each other.

“There is something about that sort of existence that, if you really focus on each other and you’re in that bubble, it’s very intoxicating, because it’s just the two of you,” Kidman told December’s Vanity Fair. “And there is only one other person that’s going through it. So it brings you very close, and it’s deeply romantic. I’m sure Brad and Angelina have that — because there’s nobody else that understands it except that person who’s sleeping right next to you.”

Their hectic work schedules make regular visits almost impossible and as a result the pair have to find new ways to keep in touch and keep that spark in their relationship still as bright as it was when they first married seven years ago. On the Monday, 28 October, edition of Ellen Degeneres' talk show, Ellen, the country star and American Idol judge revealed just how the two combat their conflicting work schedules and stay in touch despite the massive distance between them.

Keith Urban Tops Billboard Album Charts With 'Fuse'

Country star Keith Urban reaches top spot in Billboard 200 album chart race as the Australian born singer narrowly beat The Weeknd'S 'Kiss Land' for that No.1 position.

Billboard reported that 'Fuse' sold 98,000 copies whereas 'Kiss Land' sold an equally impressive 95,000, with 3,000 copies separating the No.1 and No.2 spot, based on Nielson SoundScan data collected from the past week.

This was the smallest margin of victory since January of this year (2013) where the soundtrack to 'Les Miserables' nudged past Mumford &Sons 'Babel' by only 2,000 copies. Rapper 2-Chainz took the No.3 spot with 'B.O.A.T.S II #METIME' selling 63,000 copies which is a huge drop compared to his debut album 'Based on a T.R.U Story' that finished at the top spot, selling more than twice as much with 147,000 copies.

Well, it looks like the American Idol mayhem is all over. We can all breathe a little easier, knowing that the American Idol set won’t feature two empty chairs next season, driving poor Keith Urban to such a state of lonely desperation, that he ends up pushing a hidden button under his Coke cup, which causes the entire set to explode in a massive fireworks display announcing the death of America’s original televised talent show, while Mariah Carey’s 'Hero' blasts out of the sound system.

This source appears to be Lopez's boyfriend, and former backing dancer, Casper Smart who told E! she would be returning for the 13th season. Despite plans to work on her music, it seems Lopez has decided she wants to return to the show in order for her schedule to include more time with her children. American Idol's Next Season Will Be A Blast From The Past, With Jennifer Lopez Back On The Judging Panel

Turns out Jennifer Lopez’s time on American Idol really has been the show’s most entertaining run to date. It’s no wonder that the show is bringing back the opinionated singer (hopefully with her majestic top knot in tow). According to a report by Deadline, Lopez has just signed a $15 million deal with Fox to return to the next season of Idol, along with longtime judge Keith Urban and of course everyone’s favorite Idol host Randy Jackson.

Jennifer Lopez made for one of Idol's most entertaining seasons to date.

Lopez and Idol have a long and storied history together. The singer came on Fox’s talent competition in 2010, at a low point in her own career. She managed to save the show’s ratings after the departure of the judge everyone loved to hate, Simon Cowell. Now, Fox seems to be hoping for the same kind of turnaround, after the network wasted some extremely high paychecks on Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj last season. All the diva spats in the world couldn’t save American Idol from a ratings nose dive and almost losing the competition to NBC’s brand new shiny contender, The Voice.

So Keith Urban Returns To American Idol, But What About Jennifer Lopez?

Ok, so we know that the country music nice guy Keith Urban is returning to American Idol, but sources close to the big decision makers on the Fox show say Jennifer Lopez is "very close" to signing a deal to return to the reality singing competition.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the deal is yet to be signed though it could be a done deal within days.

Lopez is easily the most popular of all the Idol judges, entertaining audiences during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. So unhappy were producers with the latest season of the show that they reportedly courted Lopez to replace Mariah Carey midway through.

Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry are among the names confirmed for the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas in September. The two-day festival, set to be held on September 20 and 21, will also feature performances from Elton John, Keith Urban and a special pairing of Queen (with Brian May) and the former American Idol star Adam Lambert.

The main festival line-up was announced on Monday morning (July 15, 2013) in a press conference hosted by Ryan Seacrest. Last year's festivals played host to No Doubt, Pink, Usher and Swedish House Mafia though it will be remembered for Billie Joe Armstrong's meltdown during Green Day's set. After smashing the band's instruments in protest of his set being cut short, Armstrong left the stage and was admitted to rehab the next day, cancelling his band's tour dates and promotional appearances.

Prepare for strangeness, as the iHeart Radio music festival is once again upon us and it comes with an eclectic lineup once again this year. Said lineup has now been announced, and while there won’t be another meltdown from Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong, since the band won’t be performing this year, there are still plenty of names on their for fans of various genres to get excited about.

It's Back To Basics As Taylor Swift Rocks CMA With Tim McGraw And Keith Urban

Taylor Swift Keith Urban Tim Mcgraw

These days Taylor Swift is an unstoppable force in pop, but she made it clear that she hasn’t forgotten her country roots when she teamed up with Tim Mcgraw and Keith Urban at the 2013 CMA Music Festival in Nashville this weekend, The LA Times reports. Taylor joined McGraw for a performance of his latest single, Highway Don’t Care, which is a collab between McGraw, Urban and Swift herself, and sounds like a cross between a ballad and a PSA for careful driving. It is a pretty catchy tune though and the trio managed to do it justice with their live performance.

At first, Swift appeared onstage alone to perform an homage to her idol – one of her first hits, “Time McGraw” after which the man himself materialised on stage and the two launched into the emotional performance of Highway Don’t Care. Urban popped by soon after for the ballad’s guitar solo. After their appearance, all three musicians were ecstatic and didn’t fail to share the feeling with their fans over Twitter.

“Such a blast joining @TheTimMcGraw and @taylorswift13 tonite at #CMAfest!!! Ready to rock Saturday!!! –KU,” tweeted Urban after the show. For a snippet of their number together, check out the video below.

The Great American Cull: Mariah Carey And Nicki Minaj Leave 'Idol'

Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj Randy Jackson American Idol Keith Urban Jennifer Lopez

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey are bothleaving American Idol after just one series on the Fox talent show. The announcement comes in the same month that original judge Randy Jackson left the panel, while the future of Keith Urban now looks increasingly uncertain.Rapper Minaj told her 16 million Twitter followers: "Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn't trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!" while Mariah's departure was also announced on Twitter.

Reports suggest Mariah Carey earned $18 million for her year on the show, while Minaj took home $12 million, though neither gelled. According to the Hollywood Reporter, show bosses were keen to replace Mariah with previous fan-favourite Jennifer Lopez midway through the twelfth season, but Carey's considerable legal team put the stoppers on the deal.

In a joint statement with American Idol's production company, FremantleMedia, Fox said, "Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season," adding that Mariah Carey was a "true global icon." Despite the nice goodbyes, it's no secret that Idol bosses will be glad to see the back of both stars, having suffered in the ratings over the past year. The show's ratings fell to its lowest point in 12 years this series, which was won by soul singer Candice Glover.

Keith Urban In The Dark On American Idol Future, New Album On The Way

Keith Urban American Idol Nicki Minaj

Keith Urban has no idea whether he’ll be back on the American Idol books again for the next season, but apparently, that’s the way things work with Fox’s talent competition. In the meantime, though, Urban has popped together a new record, due for release in September.

"I have no official information of anything," the 45-year-old explained to the Associated Press. "I'm pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around. I don't know anything more about what's happening next season. It was like this before I signed on ... so it's not unusual for the 'Idol' folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together." So while you’re twiddling your folky thumbs, what better way to pass the time than record an album? For Urban, there literally was no better way. So he did. His follow-up to 2010's Get Closer features a plethora of collaborative talents. "It's just been really creatively liberating to me," Urban said. "I love collaborating. It's the thing I've always loved doing, whether it's writing or performing or being in the studio, I love the collaborative process. I think finding people's strengths is the thing I love the most."

One thing’s for sure; Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj won’t be presiding over a judging chair. The low ratings dictated that they get the boot, and Minaj’s inflammatory attitude can’t have helped her case either.

Faith Hill's Braces, Grammy Awards 2013Faith Hill's Braces Were A Huge Talking Point At The Grammy Awards

Faith Hill's braces became the subject of intense discussion and debate during the Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 10, 2013), with the country songstress debuting her new mouth gear. The singer looked stunning in a black J. Mendel gown though confused fans by wearing braces, despite her usually flawless smile.

Hill told country station KNIX that she had braces as a kid, but forgot to wear her retainer. When explaining the need for a second round of dental gear, Faith advised. "Kids, wear your retainer!" Her two eldest daughters with husband Tim Mcgraw - Gracie and Maggie - both wear braces, too. The couple presented an award at Sunday night's 55th annual Grammy Awards and were photographed hanging out with their close friends Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. Five-times winner Grammy winner Faith Hill teamed her lavish gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery, Tom Ford shoes and a pretty impressive looking Bottega Veneta clutch.

Dude Looks Like A Lady: Steven Tyler Does Audition In Drag On American Idol

American Idol contestant "Pepper LaBeija from the House of LaBeija." rocked up in an impeccable face of make-up and a big blonde wig ready, a very short skirt and honking false boobs. She raring to audition, only for judges to double over in laughter upon the realisation that LaBeija was actually ex-American Idol judge, and Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler, reports MSN.

"I just wanted to come by and say hello. I love you. Good luck with this year," he told the judges for the reasoning behind is surprise appearance. Sadly, LaBeija nor Tyler actually got to audition and he flounced out of the audition room saying "No Hollywood for me." Clearly, he was very disappointed. However, while neither Tyler nor LaBeija got through, 45 other hopefuls certainly did.

This year's judges are long time judge, Randy Jackson, plus  Keith Urban, and at centre spotlight in the months leading up to the new series, rapper Nicki Minaj and singer Mariah Carey. Carey and Minaj had a bit of a dispute last fall which culminated in an alleged death threat. It's all water under the bridge now though, and by the time the live shows come around they'll undoubtedly be the best of friends.

The Idol Judging Panel: Minaj Shines And Harmony Rules

Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey Keith Urban Randy Jackson

With a new panel and a whole new dynamic, this season of American Idol is going strong so far.

It looks like the driving force behind the revival are mostly the ladies – after the obligatory fight/feud/general beef (what’s the trendy term these days?) Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj seem to have reconciled in their mission to let as many hot guys as possible through the qualifying round. Nicki is her usual larger-than-life self, complete with eye-popping colour palette, (mostly) witty banter, and a ready comment for every contestant. Maybe her energy is exactly what the talent competition needed to get back on its feet. But the reason that Miss Minaj’s whole persona works on the show, is that it works with the other judges.

Mariah balances out Nicki’s zany personality with her calm, serene appearance (seriously, does anyone know what they have in those cups?), while Keith Urban is the nice guy every judging panel needs, in order for the viewer not to hate them. Meanwhile, Randy Jackson is just there to stir up the occasional spat, by egging on contestants and judges alike. It’s always clear, however, that any drama is mainly for the cameras and in overall, they all just get along. Just like one big, mismatched, reality TV family.

In-Depth Interview With Nicole Kidman On Tom Cruise, Kids And Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman Tom Cruise Keith Urban

In 1990, when she was just 23, Nicole Kidman married the man that she thought would be the love of her life: Tom Cruise. Yes, any woman under the age of 30 was pretty much convinced at that point that Tom Cruise was destined for her, but Kidman both won and lost. They were married for 10 years, but divorced in 2000,  which Kidman said, in her latest very indepth interview with DuJou, "was a shock to [her] system." Despite it taking her a long time to heal, 12 years on and her life is not just back on track but the whole landscape of her existence is basking in the warm glow of contentment and joy, it appears.

"My life changed," she said, since meeting her current husband Keith Urban. "He is a wonderful, caring man and he makes me feel secure. We don't ever like to be separated." She and Urban married in 2006 and have two daughters together. It isn't only her marriage that changed her life, but having babies has changed a lot as well. Her first child Sunday Rose was born in 2008 in Nashville. "Having my baby has been a healing experience," she says. "It took me so long to have a child. I feel enormous gratitude. Sunday has healed an enormous amount in me. It's a very private thing, but she just has."

It's a delight to hear how great Kidman's life is. "Before, I was running away from life. Now I embrace it. You never know how long you have. So I cherish every minute." She said, "I'm happier than I've ever been in my life." Kidman is currently filming for 'Grace of Monaco', a film about Grace Kelly which is set for release in 2014.

Did Nicki Minaj Threaten To Shoot Mariah Carey?

Reports have suggested that the Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey battle shows no signs of slowing, as Minaj threatened to shoot Carey.

Talking to TMZ's, The View, Barbara Walters, who spoke with Mariah, said she was concerned because "Nicki walked off the set and multiple people heard Nicki say, 'If I had a gun I would shoot the bitch." The quote was met with gasps from the audience and panel, alongside a few chuckles. Walters, who also quoted Mariah as saying that Nicki is "unpredictable", went on to explain how concerned she is, and how she's with her twins, hoping nothing would happen. Nicki tweeted: "I don't call tmz n Barbara Walters cuz I stand on my own two feet. Never needed an army. God is good. Insecurity is as cruel as the grave." And continued: "I guess it hurts 2 have the producers tell u to ur face that nicki is the best judge we've had since simon. Awww, poor u. Keep them lies cmn." Ouch.

Fellow judge Keith Urban has mixed feelings on the on-going feud; he told Extra TV, he felt like "the UN" but added, "I love it, I gotta say. I love working with passionate people. I love artists. Everyone just sort of expressing themselves. It's a very alive and very invigorating work environment."

Nicki Minaj And Mariah Carey: The Tension Rises.

American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey have been struggling to remain civil with one another, but now the tension may be getting out of hand, reports The Sun Times.

A video obtained by TMZ had previously shown Minaj shouting that she's "not f---in' putting up with Her F---ing Highness over there," and now a source close to the action has confirmed that the drama was once manageable, but is now getting out of hand. "This is really starting to get nasty. . A bit of controversy is OK - even good - because it adds spice to the show," explained the source. However, if it gets too intense and their true dislike for each other becomes obvious - and continuously obvious - then that moves into the uncomfortable stage for the viewers," they added. Fox have declined to comment both the video, and the state of affairs that lead to Minaj and Carey's fiery showdown, presumably because of the rumours that the events are being fabricated for publicity. But they are just that: rumours. Another source, this one close to judge Keith Urban, said: "Keith is such a wonderful, easygoing, lovely guy. This kind of drama was not the reason he signed on to be an 'Idol' judge. . He hates nastiness in any form."

Ryan Seacrest, though, as the host of the show, thinks the tension is a good thing. " 'Idol' needs some passionate debate. It did get intense. We want that. . The feedback that they give is very good," he explained on his radio show yesterday (October 4th, 2012).

Diva Strop! Nicki Minaj Caught Cursing At Mariah Carey On American Idol

Nicki Minaj has been caught cussing at Mariah Carey on American Idol. It was never going to be long before the two divas came to blows but we thought Carey would be the first to lose her cool. Apparently not! TMZ have posted footage of Nicki Minaj ranting at American Idol’s production staff and at Mariah herself. The footage is a little blurry and TMZ had to bleep out quite a large portion of what was coming out of Nicki’s mouth. You can see Keith Urban sat between Nicki and Mariah looking exasperated and Randy Jackson is stood at the end of the table, equally powerless.

Not all of the rant is audible but you can hear Nicki saying “I told them I'm not f**kin' putting up with her f**king highness over there. Figure it the f**k out. Figure it out… I'm not gonna sit here every f**king minute to have you come down and harass me every minute everyday.” According to the report, Nicki also threatened to “knock out” Mariah but said it before the camera was recording.

It’s hard to know what the American Idol bosses will be thinking about this latest drama between Nicki and Mariah. In essence, it will probably be good for the show as it’s bound to get more and more viewers intrigued and tuning in. After all, one of the main reasons they revamped the judging line-up was too boost falling viewer figures. What better than a foul-mouthed rant from a rapper in a pink wig to do that?

Nicki Minaj Shouts At Mariah Carey In Leaked Video

Nicki Minaj can be seen shouting at Mariah Carey at the American Idol auditions in a video posted to celebrity website TMZ on Tuesday, reports Reuters.

The video serves to validate the rumours that Minaj and Carey have been feuding during their time on the talent show, as reports suggest that both ladies would prefer to be centre of attention. "I told them, I'm not (expletive) putting up with her (expletive) highness over there," Minaj said on the video, turning towards Carey, who does offer a repost, but her part of the video is inaudible.

Keith Urban, who is seated between the two women, can be seen raising his arms to suggest his departure from the conflict, and fourth judge Randy Jackson can be heard saying "Hold up" in an apparent effort to defuse the clash. Cynical as it may be, the Idol people may be hoping this kind of thing manifests itself on stage, as nothing screams ratings louder than a diva fight, live on television.

Nicki Minaj Considering ‘Kardashian’ Style Reality Show?

Nicki Minaj’s American Idol journey may have only just begun, though it looks like the NY Queens rapper may be getting the taste for reality television. During an interview with Perez Hilton, the multi-talented MC hinted that she may let cameras into her life for a new series.

Asked if she was working on a separate project to Idol, Minaj coyly answered, “That I'm going to keep a secret for now,” though revealed she was “considering” the idea of a Kardashian-esque reality show. To be fair, the rapper seemed pretty convinced by the idea of a reality show, telling Hilton, “I will say that I find the more people see, is the more they understand, and then it's the more they like you…When you pull them in your world, they see you as a real person. I'm not running away from it anymore.” In the past couple of months, the 27-year-old has released a new perfume, an album, and has a fashion line set for later this year, though it seems she’s still ready to take on new projects. Minaj will also make her judging debut on American Idol in January, though she’s currently taping the audition rounds with Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson.

Reports suggest E! Online (the home of the Kardashians) will have first option on the reality series, while rumors suggest she’s already started filming!

No Love Lost: Mariah Carey And Nicki Minaj Feuding On American Idol, Already

Well that didn’t take long now did it? As expected, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj wasted no time going in going head-to-head during the first day of shooting on American Idol on Sunday (September 16, 2012).

Possibly proving correct the theory that there’s room for only one ‘diva’ on the ‘Idol’ panel, the pair began feuding almost immediately – according to TMZ.com – with Mariah interrupting the ‘Pink Friday’ rapper on numerous occasions. However, each time the 42-year-old attempted to take the spotlight, Queens-born Minaj fought back by talking even louder. One insider privy to the first day of filming said “Mariah and Nicki tried to cover their disdain for each other but everyone saw through it,” adding, “These girls just don’t like each other.” You may recall TMZ.com reporting on the new judging line-up a couple of months back, with a source claiming Carey had literally slammed down the phone when producers told her Minaj had been hired. The two are part of a new look judging panel for the Fox reality singing show, with country crooner Keith Urban and Randy Jackson also providing their expertise.

Though questions about Carey and Minaj’s suitability on the same panel will inevitably remain, it’s likely that Fox bosses are already rubbing their hands together with glee at the prospect of a diva-feud. Ratings, ratings, ratings.
