American Idol Hopes To Revive Itself After Season 13

American Idol Kelly Clarkson Candice Glover Scotty Mccreery Phillip Phillips

Things have been up and down lately for 'American Idol,' as the singing competition is reaching the end of its 13th season. The ratings for one of the more recent episodes reached an all-time low in viewers -- a measly 7 million, while the show’s highest attraction drew in 30 million. Additionally, publicity for one of the finalists hasn’t been too hot either, as contestant Caleb Johnson found himself in a bit of trouble when he called his social media critics “retards” in a video interview with AfterBuzz TV. Either way, the show must go on, and Idol’s two night season finale begins on Tuesday, May 20 as Johnson takes on Jena Irene for the 'American Idol' crown.

“We don’t really care who wins,” Johnson told a group of press outside of Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre on May 19. Irene, on the other hand, stated that win or lose, she wanted to “go out on a good note.” Irene may have the better philosophy here, because as 'American Idol' grows older and older, it raises the question: does anyone really care who wins 'American Idol' anymore?

Britain Beat Kelly Clarkson In Bid For Jane Austen's Ring

Kelly Clarkson

American singer Kelly Clarkson attempted to buy a gold and turquoise ring that once belonged to celebrated English novelist Jane Austen in a bid for £152,450.

The US Pop Idol contestant bought the ring at auction house Sotheby's in 2012 as she outbid the 'Jane Austen's House Museum.

However she was unable to take it out of the UK because of an export ban that was placed on the ring by the British culture ministry who decided it had too much historical significance.

Austen's turquoise and gold ring was bought by Clarkson at auction last year. The 31-year-old singer purchased the ring for £152 450 at the auction. The ring has not left the UK, despite Clarkson living in the US, after Culture Minister Ed Vaizey placed a temporary export bar on it. The ban was to be lifted only if no other buyer had outbid the US singer by 30th September 2013. Vaizey had encouraged British buyers to purchase the antique so it could be "saved for the nation." The Jane Austen House Museum has purchased the ring from Clarkson, with the aid of the Bring Home the Ring campaign, which received donations worldwide.

Historic Jane Austen Ring Slips Off Kelly Clarkson's Finger

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson is reportedly a big Jane Austen fan, so she took it in stride, when a ring, previously owned by the author, finally slipped between her fingers today. Clarkson’s trouble began in 2012, when she purchased the ring on auction at Sotheby’s. At the time, Jane Austen’s House Museum also bid for the ring, but Clarkson won out in the end.

In a bid to keep the ring, considered a national treasure, within the UK, culture minister Ed Vaizey placed an export ban on the jewel, valid until September 30th. If the Jane Austen museum couldn’t raise the money or prove that the money would be raised by then, Clarkson would get to keep the piece of Jane Austen memorabilia. Luckily, thanks to an anonymous donation of £100,000 the museum managed to reach its target of £152,450 and match Clarkson's bid ahead of the 30 September deadline.

A big decision like this was always going to turn a few heads and start up rumours, and that is exactly what happened as a number of people began speculating that the main reason the two have decided to bring the wedding date forward is because Kelly is pregnant and the pair wanted to be wedded before their child was born.

The American Idol winner has since denied the pregnancy rumours, saying that she is eloping for "one reason" only; so that she and Brandon can enjoy a private, intimate ceremony rather than any grand soirée like they had initially planned.

Mysterious Donor Coughs Up £100K To Stop Kelly Clarkson Taking Jane Austen Ring

Kelly Clarkson

Jane Austen's ring has become the subject of a transatlantic tussle over ownership after it was sold to US singer Kelly Clarkson for £152,450 ($235.3K) at a Sotheby's auction last year. Rather than receive the exquisite gold and topaz ring after she bought it, Clarkson has been told she can go and see it in a collection in Hampshire.

Should Kelly Clarkson Be Allowed To Take The 'Jane Austen' Ring To The U.S?

Kelly Clarkson

So here’s the thing: Kelly Clarkson’s pretty rich – she won American Idol and has built a successful music career off the back of it – so she can buy cool stuff pretty much whenever she wants to. She’s rich, right?

She bought this ring, it was around £150,000, and that’s nearly $230k for you American readers out there. But see, it used to belong to Jane Austen, and she’s kind of a big deal for the Brits.

Austen is basically responsible for period dramas, and don’t go acting like you don’t like period dramas, you Downton Abbey-consuming bunch of period drama-loving maniacs.

Don't Take Our Ring! UK Stop Kelly Clarkson Taking Jane Austin's Jewellery

Kelly Clarkson

A rather bizarre story has come about: the showbiz and literary worlds are entwined as Kelly Clarkson – the popular U.S singer – is blocked from exporting Jane Austin – the famous British author’s – ring outside of the U.K, The BBC have reported.

Kelly bought the £152,450, turquoise and gold ring, which once belonged to the Pride and Prejudice author, at an auction. The 2002 winner of the American Idol TV has been stopped from taking it home, though, as Britain’s Culture Minister - Ed Vaizey -has put a temporary export bar on it.

Of course, it’s Kelly’s ring, and while the U.K doesn’t want to see it leave its shores, a buyer will have to match the hefty price tag by September 30th in order for it to stay ‘at home’. This deadline can be extended to 30 December if proof emerges of "a serious intention to raise funds" to match fee. We told you it was a bizarre story.

Kelly Clarkson Forbidden To Take Jane Austen Ring Out Of The UK

Kelly Clarkson JANE AUSTEN

What do Kelly Clarkson and JANE AUSTEN have in common? The simple answer – a ring. The Tie It Up singer recently purchased a unique piece of jewellery, which had once belonged to the English author, on auction. Despite shelling out more than £150 000 for the piece, however, she might not be able to take it home, according to BBC News.

Kelly Clarkson, CMA Festival
Apparently Clarkson is taking her style cues from Jane Austen.

This is because the UK government and more specifically culture minister Ed Vaizey has put an export ban on the ring. According to him, the ring – one of only three pieces known to have belonged to the author – is so rare and so precious, that it needs to be kept in the country and preserved as a British national treasure. As such, Vaizey has urged potential UK buyers to come forward. Locals, eager to own the unique piece of jewellery, will have to match Clarkson’s original payment, which came up to £152,450.

Scathing Memoir Causes Fallout Between Kelly Clarkson And Clive Davis

Kelly Clarkson Clive Davis

You’d never think of Kelly Clarkson of all people as confrontational, but it looks like she actually has some beef – with Clive Davis of all people.

After the legendary producer published a memoir, telling the story of his life, it was revealed that the book contained an entire chapter focused on the former American Idol winner. And let’s just say she wasn’t portrayed in the best possible light. According to Davis, at one point the singer even threw a temper tantrum in his office over not having her hit single Since U Been Gone included on her upcoming record. He also goes on to mention several other instances which portray Clarkson in a less than professional light.

However, the singer herself has said that there is absolutely no truth to the accusations. In fact, Clarkson describes a completely different version of events, where her breakdown was due to Davis bullying her.

'Creative Differences' - A War Of Words Between Clive Davis And Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson Clive Davis

Clive Davis seems determined to have the last word in his war with Kelly Clarkson, which he has put down to “creative differences,” whereas Clarkson seems intent on chalking it up to “bullying.” Davis has dismissed Clarkson’s own recollections of the events that he detailed in his autobiography The Soundtrack Of My Life and insists that his depiction of the time that they worked together is not only accurate but has been fact-checked independently, too.

“I am truly very sorry that she has decided to take issue with what I know to be an accurate depiction of our time together,” Davis posted on his Twitter page. “Before the book was published, I had every fact checked with five independent individuals who were present on a daily basis throughout it all. The chapter as it is written was thoroughly verified by each and every one of them. I stand by the chapter as written in my book.” He did go on to defend Clarkson’s honor, to some degree – even if he was essentially branding her a liar. He described Clarkson as being “a tremendous vocal talent and performer” and although he cites “creative differences as the root of their problems, he added “At the same time I wish, and will always wish, Kelly's talent and her career to soar to ever new heights.”

Clarkson described the music industry leader’s comments as a “violation” and said “Growing up is awesome because you learn you don't have to cower to anyone—even Clive Davis."

55th Grammys Preview: 'Music's Biggest Night' Wont Fail To Impress

Grammy Awards Beyonce Knowles Prince Taylor Swift Maroon 5 Kelly Clarkson Florence and the Machine Frank Ocean Alicia Keys Elton John Ed Sheeran Bruno Mars Sting Jennifer Lopez Rihanna Justin Timberlake Justin Bieber Mumford And Sons Fun Black Keys Jack White

Annually, the Grammys is one of the biggest events for music across America and in Europe. In fact, it has dubbed itself 'music's biggest night'. Celebrating the best in pop, hiphop, soul, R&B and much of what comes in between, it never fails to be a veritable who's who from the Spotify playlists of the masses. And this year will be no different. Not only are the nominees ones to look out for, absences are worthy of note, as are this year's presenters and some very special performances.

As Yahoo report, this year's presenters include Grammy royalty, Prince, Beyonce, and Jennifer Lopez, all of whom have been nominated or won Grammys before.

In terms of performances to look forward to, this year we have some unusual and largely unexpected pair ups. Elton John and Ed Sheeran will take to the stage together. An unusual pairing, they're both Brits with unusual song writing talent. While John is a true showman and is well known for his intereSting outfits and outrageous glasses, Sheeran is distinctly more low key. We're not sure how this is going to work, but we're guessing it'll be great. Bruno Mars, Sting and Rihanna will all also perform together, as will Alicia Keys and Maroon 5, and Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert.

After she had finished her rousing and, as MTV put it, 'diva-fied' rendition of the anthem, Obama shook her hand and said "Thank you so much."

Kelly Clarkson also performed for the president, singing a historic song popularly known as 'America', otherwise known as My Country, 'Tis of Thee.

Kids' Inaugural 2013: Katy Perry And Usher Provide Highlights With Aerobic Acts And A Star-Spangled Onesie

Aware that children are, indeed, the future, the Kids of America got the best of the entertainment this weekend, at the Kids’ Inaugural – a repeat of the 2009 concert, but this time, with bigger names, playing to a smaller audience. Sasha and Malia Obama were of course, the guests of honour on this special weekend for their father, President Barack Obama, but 5,000 others were present at the exciting pop concert held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Centre, where Katy Perry and Usher took the headline slots, to entertain the gathered youth.

During his set, Usher reinforced the notion that the kids were worth keeping sweet, for the next presidential term, and told them “the youth matters,” during a set described by the Washington Post as “aerobic,” with “twisted limbs clad in black leather, kicking high tops the maraschino cherries.” When he told them to make some noise, they responded with a roar. Katy Perry – an avid supporter of Barack Obama (remember the Katy Perry election dress?) also performed on Saturday night (January 19, 2013). This time, she’d switch up the ballot dress for a “star-spangled onesie” and she treated the kids to some of her biggest hits, including ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘Firework.’

Also performing for the Kids’ Inaugural were the Far East Movement and Glee’s Darren Criss and Naya Rivera, who covered ‘Valerie,’ the song made famous by Amy Winehouse. If you’re wondering why the kids are getting to have all the fun, don’t worry: Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor are all warming up their vocal cords, to sing for the grown-ups at the official inauguration ceremony today (January 21, 2013).
