Us Weekly has retracted its article in which it quoted from an interview with Kendall Jenner, an interview the 19-year-old model claims never took place. The article concerned her father's alleged transition from male to female. Us Weekly has offered a public apology to Jenner and her family after the editors questioned the "veracity" of the interview. The retraction, issued on Thursday (19th March), follows a series of tweets Jenner posted in which she criticized the news outlet and questioned the legality of the website misrepresenting her words.

The quotation in question, as reported by the L.A. Times, states Jenner is happy with Bruce Jenner's alleged transition and that she loves her father regardless of his decision to 'change shoes'.

"He's [Bruce Jenner's] a wonderful man. And just because he's changing shoes now, so to speak, doesn't make him less wonderful. I will always love my dad, whether he's a man or a woman," the quotation reads.

Shortly after the story was published on Wednesday, Jenner took to Twitter to complain about the 'interview':

"How is it legal for someone to "quote" someone and publish it if in fact you never said what was quoted," Jenner wrote on Twitter on Wednesday (18th March).

"Shame on US Weekly for making up quotes. I NEVER said those things. I never spoke to them," Jenner later added.

Jenner's comments appear to have prompted Us Weekly editors to revaluate the story. In their retraction, the website stated the story had originated from a freelance journalist who claimed he interviewed Jenner at Justin Bieber's Comedy Central Roast. They stated that the journalist continued to support his story but the editors questioned accuracy of the interview.

Rumours of Bruce's interest in gender reassignment surgery have been circulating for a number of years, largely because of Bruce's changing appearance. Sources claimed they could confirm Bruce was planning on transitioning earlier this year and that the former athlete would be the subject of a new reality series centring on his transition.
