It Happened Two Weeks Ago: Kerry Washington Keeps Birth Of Baby Daughter Remarkably Private

Kerry Washington

Announcement time: Kerry Washington has given birth to a baby girl. The little one came into the world on April 21 (kudos to Washington for managing to keep it private until now). Her name is Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha, according to TMZ and Us Weekly. Washington usually keeps her personal life private and this has remained true during her pregnancy. The few bits of news released have included the original pregnancy announcement back in October of 2013, when Washington, 36 and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha announced that they were expecting. Three months later Washington’s pregnancy made news again, when the actress stepped out with her brand new baby bump at the 2014 Golden Globe awards on Jan. 12.

"I feel like I have the best date of the night," Washington, clad in a white Balenciaga gown, said for Us Weekly on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. "My little accessory tonight." "Scandal" Recap: The One Where Everything Happens, All At Once

Kerry Washington

Lots of things happened on Thursday night’s episode of Scandal, most of them setting up for the big finale next week. In this recap you get two warnings: it might be hard to keep up and as unual WATCH OUT FOR ALL THE SPOILERS below.

Kerry Washington, Vanity Fair Oscars Party
Kerry Washington's Olivia Pope had some tough choices to make in this episode.

In last night’s episode Rowan Pope joined Jake Ballard and the Gladiators in the search for a bomb, planted somewhere in Washington, while Fitz chilled out/was put under house arrest at the White House, putting him temporarily out of commission.
Elsewhere in the White House, things were taking a much more personal turn. Cooped up and alone, the First Lady is suffering some serious pangs of guilt. The Langston camp finds out that Mellie is trying to have a paternity test taken, but Olivia, being excellent at her job as ever, finds out and shuts down the whole thing. Lena Dunham Goes All Old Testament On SNL

Lena Dunham Taran Killam Adam Driver Kerry Washington

Lena Dunham hosted and helped out the SNL team with a few sketches last night. And it was hilarious – mostly if you’re a Girls fan. Much has been written about Dunham’s Girls – mostly about its white-washed, middle-class, spoiled and completely self-unaware cast of characters. At least no one can say that Dunham herself lacks self-awareness though.

Lena Dunham, Girls SNL Premiere
Put Dunham and the SNL cast together and the fun never ends. Sort of.

In a sketch, based on the recent trend of religious flicks – Son of God and Noah being to prime examples – Taran Killan played Adam Driver as the Adam to Dunham’s Eve. The sketch was perfectly on point - wonder if it'll win the show some new viewers? Girls fans will recognize lines like: “Can you please not apple-shame me? I know I committed original sin, but at least it's original. I think I deserve some credit for that—or at least a publishing deal…”

Following Accusations Of Lacking Diversity, SNL Books Kerry Washington To Host

Kerry Washington Kenan Thompson

“Scandal” star Kerry Washington is about to reach another milestone in her career, as she has been drafted to host Saturday Night Live for the first time. Washington will take over the sketch comedy show on November 2, Deadline reports. Her appearance comes at a turbulent time for SNL, as the show has once again come under fire for failing to represent any kind of ethnic diversity. There is some truth to this, considering that Washington’s temporary addition to the cast rounds out the number of non-white people onstage to a meager total of four and out of them, Washington will be the only black female.

Kerry Washington, Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon
Washington's booking brings a little diversity to the SNL stage.

The show came under some fire online recently, when cast-member Kenan Thompson got dragged back into the diversity controversy during a TV Guide interview. When he had to answer the question of why, for the sixth consecutive season, SNL had failed to hire a single black comedienne Thompson came out with a rather foot-in-mouth answer.

The Emmy Awards 2013: Who's Deserving In The Outstanding Drama, Lead Actress & Actor Category?

Bryan Cranston Kerry Washington Elisabeth Moss Aaron Paul Kevin Spacey Game Of Thrones Damian Lewis Robin Wright

This year 'smart' dramas Homeland, Mad Men and Breaking Bad dominate the Primetime Emmy Award nominations yet again and even for fans of the TV shows, it will be hard to predict which of their favourite series will carry off the most gongs. The Hollywood Reporter's Stacey Wilson highlights just how highly contested this year's 'best drama' category is: "If you win this year, it's going to be a real feather," she said to ABC News. The nominees list for each category is decidedly hefty but we've identified the ones that are toughest to call.

Bryan Cranston
Bryan Cranston Voted Best Actor?

Having never won an 'outstanding drama' Emmy before, it looks like Breaking Bad could finally scoop the big gong this year having picked up five Primetime Emmy's before; 3 'best actors' for Bryan Cranston, 2 'best supporting actors' for Aaron Paul. With the first half of its final season currently airing, it looks like this could be the last chance for the show, as popular as ever, to scoop the night's biggest award. Downton Abbey, whilst having previously looked strong, has endured harsh reviews in its third season meaning it will be interesting to see whether this has had any impact on the voters.

Scandal! Kerry Washington Marries In Secret Ceremony

Kerry Washington Quentin Tarantino

Burgeoning star Kerry Washington has well and truly proved she’s a top celebrity by getting married in secret. Only the most famous celebs have to get married in secret, you see.

She tied the knot with sports star Nnamdi Asomugha in the ceremony. And so secret was, no one even really knew the pair were dating, let alone getting ready to get married! Of course, there’s no official word from them, but People magazine say the parents are their main source. ABC News confirmed the whole shebang, providing everyone with a handy marriage certificate just in case anyone didn’t believe it. The actress’s parents Earl and Valerie Washington signed the document as witnesses to the nuptials while Chisaraokwu Asomugha was listed as the minister. Washington’s star has really risen since her role in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, in which she played Django’s long lost wife.

Her show Scandal is one of the most thrilling shows on TV at the moment, and the critics have lauded praise over her. Last year She told Elle: "I’m the luckiest broad in Hollywood now... To be the lead actor on Scandal and to be in the highest-earning [Quentin] Tarantino movie [Django Unchained] - I don’t get to ask for more. I was not that girl [growing up]. I was a kooky theater kid, silly and goofy and academic."

Kerry Washington Shines On Vanity Fair Cover, Shares Her Pride Over Scandal Role

Kerry Washington

Even after Scandal, Kerri Washington’s breakout show, has finished its sophomore season, Kerri Washington’s star power just keeps on growing. Case in point: Washington’s brand new Vanity Fair cover, for the magazine’s August issue. But, as usual, it’s what’s on the inside that counts and Washington’s cover story reveals a lot about her character – Washington “fixer” Olivia Pope – and about the actress herself. Washington sees her role as revolutionary – revolutionary for women overall, but especially for women of color.

Kerry Washington, ABC Upfront Party
Washington takes pride in her role.

“It’s especially profound in a place like South Africa,” she explains about the effect her character has on women, watching the show. “It’s called The Fixer over there, and it just started its second season. The fact that white women can see this woman of color as an aspirational character is revolutionary, I think, in the medium of television. I don’t think white women would feel that way about Olivia if her identity as a woman, period, wasn’t first in their mind.”

Kerry Washington Appreciates Her Recent Rise To The Top

Kerry Washington

It’s been a pretty manic couple of years for Kerry Washington. She played the damsel in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained - the highest grossing Tarantino film and winner of multiple awards – and now has a lead in Scandal, ABC’s latest political thriller.

“I’m the luckiest broad in Hollywood now,” the Django Unchained star told Elle magazine during a raunchy but tasteful photoshoot. “To be the lead actor on Scandal and to be in the highest-earning Tarantino movie- I don’t get to ask for more.” While Washington’s star has certainly risen recently, she’s a seasoned actress, with roles in films like Save the Last Dance, Ray and The Last King of Scotland. It could have all been so different if she’d chosen another of her preferred paths, though. “I imagined I’d be a clinical psychologist, with a focus on how performance shapes identity,” she explained. “I’d figure out ways to use role-playing in the healing of people.”

Having been a star for a while, but getting headline space due to her recent explots, there’s been a certain learning curve for the 34-year-old. “I found out I enjoy the process,' she told Elle about getting ready for the red carpet. “All these people show up at my house, they all have kits, someone has dresses. And it’s like, Let’s have fun. It’s not all about me. We’re able to create stories on the red carpet."

‘Most Beautiful’ Gwyneth Paltrow Sans Underwear At Iron Man 3 Premiere [Pictures]

Gwyneth Paltrow Kerry Washington

Buoyed from being named the most beautiful woman in the world by People magazine, Gwyneth Paltrow stole the show at the Iron Man 3 premiere in Hollywood, California, on Wednesday night (April 24, 2013). The 40-year-old mother of two wore a partially sheer gown as she walked down the red-carpet, making it somewhat obvious that she, err, wasn’t wearing underwear.

Paltrow played down the ‘most beautiful’ tag at the premiere, telling the Associated Press, “It's funny, these things, because it's like obviously not true. But it's very sweet to be named that…Because I mean you can't say that, you know! But it's been wonderful. It's been very wonderful. And as my friend said, it's so nice that someone who has kids and is a mom and is not like 21 is named that. It's really an honor.”

It’s a fair point, and Paltrow tops a curious list for this year, with the likes of Pink, Jane Fonda and Drew Barrymore also in the Top 10. The Django actress Kerry Washington came in second place, while various heavyweight names were left out. We can’t say we’re surprised by Paltrow getting the top spot this year – she’s coincidentally got a massive movie to promote.

SAG Awards: Best Dressed Movie Stars, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Kidman, Anne Hathaway (Pictures)

Jennifer Lawrence, SAG AwardsDespite A Wardrobe Malfunction, Jennifer Lawrence Looked Stunning At The SAG Awards

It was Ben Affleck and Argo who stole the headlines after the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Santa Monica this weekend, with the Iranian hostage movie taking the evening's top award. The SAG's are usually more casual than the Academy Awards though are generally considered a trial run for the Oscars, perhaps more so than the Golden Globes. Should the SAGs predict the winners on February 24, 2013, then Argo, Daniel Day-Lewis and Jennifer Lawrence will be among the triumphant nominees.

Anyway, let's not concern ourselves with awards, because the Screen Actors Guild Awards attracted a fine flurry of stylish dresses and elegant gowns. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how nasty you are) most of the movie stars got it right with their ensembles, with Marion Cotillard, Kerry Washington, Nicole Kidman, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence making it a successful night for the big-hitters. The latter suffered a minor wardrobe malfunction when taking to the stage to collect her award, though her Dior gown was one of the evening's showstoppers.

Forget The Controversy: Django Unchained Comes Up Trumps At Golden Globes

Quentin Tarantino Christoph Waltz Leonardo Dicaprio Jamie Foxx Kerry Washington

Quentin Tarantino’s violent historical slave movie Django Unchained may well be mired in controversy right now but it received the seal of approval from last night’s Golden Globe awards. Django Unchained walked away from the ceremony with a Best Supporting Actor award for Christoph Waltz (who plays the role of Dr. King Schultz) and Best Screenplay, for the movie’s enigmatic helmsman, Quentin Tarantino.

Waltz beat off fierce competition from Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln), Alan Arkin (Argo), Leonardo Dicaprio (Django Unchained) and Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master). This was by no means a one horse race and in his acceptance speech, he thanked Leonardo DiCaprio, his Django co-star. Accepting the award, Waltz sounded shaky-voiced, clearly overcome with gratitude for the award. Addressing his director, he said “Quentin, you know that my indebtedness to you and my gratitude knows no words” and described his time on the movie as a journey, adding “I can thank all my travel mates, Jamie Foxx and Leo DiCaprio, Sam Jackson, Kerry Washington…” the list went on.

In his own acceptance speech, Tarantino appeared surprised to have won the award. “Wow, I wasn’t expecting this,” began, before thanking his actors and also thanked his friends that he reads the script to. “I don’t want input,” he joked, “ I don’t want you to tell me if I’m doing anything wrong… but when I read it to you, I hear it through your ears.” There was, of course, no mention of his highly publicised spat with interviewer Krishnan Guru Murthy, recently, which ended with Tarantino refusing to answer questions about movie violence and telling him “I’m shutting your butt down.”

The Django Unchained cast appeared to have a spring in their steps at the London premiere of Quentin Tarantino's new movie on Thursday evening (January 10, 2013) and quite rightly so. The action-western flick scored numerous nominations at the Oscars announcement earlier in the day, including one for the all-important Best Picture.

It was 35-year-old Kerry Washington - who plays Jamie Foxx's wife in the film - that turned heads at the premiere, outdoing tons of UK celebrities with a dramatic white ball gown emblazoned with a large horse print. Sounds bizarre, though it actually looked pretty elegant. The acclaimed actress teamed the dress with dark lipstick and heels. Co-star Foxx was on-hand to ensure Washington didn't have it all her own way at the premiere though, showing up at The Empire in Leicester Square in a bright purple suit and aqua coloured shirt! Samuel L Jackson was also in attendancing, looking as swarve as ever.

Quentin Tarantino's latest movie Django Unchained includes 110 uses of the N-word, which the cast had to get to grips with on-set. The film follows the story of a slave-turned-bounty hunter played by Jamie Foxx.

Leonardo Dicaprio, who plays the evil plantation owner Calvin Candie, uses the word the most often, though his co-star Kerry Washington explained the extensive usage to Access Hollywood, saying, "These characters use the N-word because that's what people said back then, and again if you don't understand how ugly the time is, you don't understand how bad--- [Django] is to get through this time." Foxx echoed the remarks, though recalled an initial feeling of unrest at using the word, "We knew we had to go to a bad place and when I talked to black people about the film and they say they were bothered by the N-word, I said, 'It's supposed to, it's supposed to bother you. Those horrific things that happened to us, is supposed to bother you." The movie has received a slew of positive review, including 5 stars from The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw who said, "I can only say Django delivers, wholesale, that particular narcotic and delirious pleasure that Tarantino still knows how to confect in the cinema, something to do with the manipulation of surfaces. It's as unwholesome, deplorable and delicious as a forbidden cigarette."

Django Unchained, which hits cinemas on Christmas Day, is nominated for Best Drama at the Golden Globes.

Newtown Shooting Reaction: Jamie Foxx, Quentin Tarantino On Violence And The Film Industry

Jamie Foxx Quentin Tarantino Kerry Washington

Well, it was about time. The school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut that occurred on Friday and, as the nation mourns the victims, the debates about violence in the media are just beginning.

The latest person to comment on this is actor Jamie Foxx, who, a bit ironically, stars in Django UnchainedQuentin Tarantino’s upcoming flick about slavery, which will feature quite a lot of explicit and violent scenes. While promoting the film on Saturday, the star braved the difficult topic, saying that Hollywood can no longer ignore the fact that on-screen violence influences people on some level.

"We cannot turn our back and say that violence in films or anything that we do doesn't have a sort of influence. It does," Fox said in an interview. Meanwhile, director Quentin Tarantino, who is known for his extremely violent and gory scenes, which are all part of his signature style, is once again struggling to defend his artistic freedom. Tarantino went on a bit of a tangent, explaining that he was tired of defending his films each time the nation was shocked by gun violence. He stated that “tragedies happen” and that blame should fall on those guilty of the crimes.

"It's Always Racial": Jamie Foxx Discusses Django Unchained

Jamie Foxx Kerry Washington

In a recent interview about forthcoming film Django Unchained, actor Jamie Foxx has admitted that “it’s always racial” as a black person. The quote comes in reference to the fact that some of the black community have criticized Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti western for not taking issues of slavery seriously enough in the film.

Foxx plays leading character Django, a man set free from slavery in order to work as a bounty hunter, as part of a deal that sees his buyer agree to help him find his lost wife; he told Vibe Magazine “as black folks we're always sensitive. As a black person it's always racial.” He added “I come into this place to do a photo shoot and they got Ritz crackers and cheese. I'll be like, ain't this a b*tch. Y'all didn't know black people was coming. What's with all this white sh*t? By the same token, if there is fried chicken and watermelon I'll say ain't this a b*tch? So, no matter what we do as black people it's always gonna be that. Every single thing in my life is built around race.”

Foxx was joined by Kerry Washington for the interview, and she said that, whilst it was clear to point out that it was a film, a work of fiction, there was no denying that they’d tried to treat slavery with as much truth as possible. “I remember there was this one moment in the script where Jamie's character was put in an awful crazy medieval metal mask” she commented. “I said, ‘That's some sick thing Quentin thought up.' And when I went to the production office to meet about my wardrobe, I saw into the research office. Twenty photos of real masks like that. It made me sad.”

The Details - Trailer Trailer

Jeff Lang is the morally questionable protagonist in this bizarre comedy. After 10 years of marriage with his wife Nealy, he begins to realise that their virtually loveless relationship is on the rocks, and all it took was an invasion of hungry raccoons who destroy the Lang garden and home after discovering a large number of worms in the undergrowth. Jeff develops a fixation on exterminating the raccoons and, along the way, seems to begin to exterminate his own life as he is drawn into a world of infidelity; namely with his wacky neighbour Lila. However, things do not go exactly as he had planned and he seems to wind up destroying his home worse than their garden pests.

'The Details' is a peculiarly dark comedy that certainly has plenty of nervous laughter moments but definitely leaves us feeling uncomfortable seeing the world from a character we don't particularly trust. It is the perfect story about the morally corrupt humans of the world who are not necessarily bad people, merely just instinctive and desperate people who rarely take time to contemplate the feelings of those around them - not dissimilar to the temperaments of the raccoons they so despise. Directed and written by the award winning Jacob Aaron Estes ('Mean Creek'), 'The Details' is set to hit US movie theaters on November 2nd 2012.

Mother And Child Review

Very Good
An excellent ensemble makes the most of a multi-strand female-centred film that drifts very close to melodrama as it explores various aspects of motherhood.

Fortunately writer-director Garcia is very careful to avoid wallowing in sentimentality.

Elizabeth (Watts) is a shark-like lawyer who easily seduces her new boss Paul (Jackson). She's had a difficult emotional life, and prefers to keep things under control, managing her friendships and relationships with icy distance.
