Kesha Seeks To Lift Halt On Dr. Luke Sex Abuse Claims

Kesha

Things are getting a little complicated in the legal proceedings between Kesha and Dr. Luke, because now she's planning to go full steam ahead with claims she made against Luke in Los Angeles, alleging that he subjected her to physical, emotional and sexual assault. The case had originally been put on hold, pending the outcome of her New York dispute which, sadly, saw her remaining chained to her contract with Kemosabe Records.

Unfortunately, the judge has decided to keep the case on hold for now, despite Kesha's attorneys claiming that they have made significant amendments to the original claim. This heartbreaking decision comes just a day after Kesha posted a positive message to her Instagram followers.

Kesha's Mother Pebe Sebert Drops Dr. Luke Counterclaims

Kesha

The complicated and seemingly endless dispute between Kesha and her erstwhile producer Lukas Gottwald (aka. Dr. Luke), but one aspect of it appears to have been ended after Kesha’s mother dropped her counterclaims against him this week.

This particular part of the case started in Tennessee, where Dr. Luke originally sued the pop star’s mother, Pebe Sebert, for defamation and tortious interference. According to him, she had “smeared” him by circulating rumours that he raped Kesha to bloggers and the press after an alleged extortion attempt, which he says Kesha and her mother concocted together, over a contractual disagreement failed.

In turn, Pebe Sebert countersued on the basis of intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, and it is this countersuit that she withdrew on Tuesday (April 26th), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Asked about her thoughts on Kesha's lawsuit against Dr. Luke for alleged rape and abuse, Grimes - aka Claire Boucher - confesses that she's had her own struggles with male producers. 'I don't know enough about the specifics of that situation, because it seems very complicated', she told Rolling Stone in an interview. 'But I will say that I've been in numerous situations where male producers would literally be like, 'We won't finish the song unless you come back to my hotel room'. If I was younger or in a more financially desperate situation, maybe I would have done that.'

Kesha's "Slavery" Appeal Against Sony Contract Thrown Out Of Court

Kesha

A New York judge has dismissed Kesha’s motion to terminate her contract with Sony in the wake of the pop star’s allegations of sexual abuse against her former producer Dr. Luke.

Judge Shirley Kornreich refused to overrule an earlier verdict in February this year, after Kesha’s lawyers had argued that to keep her contract with Sony in place was tantamount to “slavery”. The judge also held that Sony’s offer for Kesha to continue to record with them – but without any involvement from Dr. Luke or the companies he effectively controls within the Sony structure.

Dr Luke Calls Kesha's Claims That She Was Asked To Lie In Return For Her Freedom A 'Publicity Stunt'

Kesha made the claims in an Instagram post on Sunday, that most likely referred to her contract with Dr Luke, which is currently the subject of an ongoing legal battle.

The post on Kesha’s Instagram page read: “So. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH."

Kesha Files Appeal Against Dr Luke Court Ruling

Kesha Dr Luke

Kesha has filed an appeal against the New York Supreme Court ruling last month, that dismissed her request for a preliminary injunction, that would allow her to record music outside of working with producer Dr Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald). The singer has previously accused her longtime collaborator of drugging and raping her. Luke has also countersued for breach of contract and defamation, while denying the allegations.

Kesha Kesha has filled an appeal over last month’s court ruling in her case against Dr. Luke.

The documents, filled by Kesha’s legal team and obtained by People read: "The court erred in basing its decision on its finding that Kesha could record without interference from Gottwald.” They go on to compare Kesha’s contract with the producer to slavery.

Kelly Clarkson Was 'Blackmailed' Into Collaborating With Kesha's Producer Dr. Luke

Kesha Kelly Clarkson

It looks like Kesha's case against Dr. Luke has just got a boost from fellow Sony artist Kelly Clarkson, who has now revealed that she has her own reservations about the producer as well after being 'blackmailed' into working with him despite the fact that she thinks he 'lies a lot'.

Kelly ClarksonKelly Clarkson opens up about Dr. Luke

The 'Piece By Piece' singer threw caution to the winds when she took to Twitter in support of her troubled peer Kesha after it was ruled by New York Supreme Court that the latter would not be freed from her record label in order to continue to make a living as a recording artist, despite accusing producer Dr. Luke of emotional and sexual abuse. And now Clarkson has gone a step further by publicly slamming the producer in an interview on Australia's KIIS 1065 Kyle & Jackie O Breakfast Show.

The Best Musical Performances, On The Subway

Lion King Michael Buble Joshua Bell Avril Lavigne Rick Springfield Kesha

Anyone who has ever travelled on the London Underground or the New York subway system knows that the experience is usually a dull and laborious affair. The carriages are sweltering and filled with people trudging to and from work, trying to avoid eye contact with everyone else despite the intense proximity of fellow passengers. All of these facets render the latest internet viral sensation as a harm-warming act to enliven the dreary public transport experience.

Earlier this summer, members of the cast from the Broadway hit Lion King broke into spontaneous song on the New York A-train. The resulting video is currently doing the rounds on social media. The A Cappella version of ‘The Circle Of Life’ leaves many passengers enthralled, clearly delighted to have their journey brightened by the performers impressive talents sing and clap along to the spectacle. Others, however, react with a passive indifference with a few even keeping their headphones in through the song’s entirety. But the Lion King cast’s impromptu performance is far from the first to take place on a subway system. We take a look at some other examples.

Kesha In Typically Wild Form In 'Crazy Kids' Video

Kesha

We’ve come to expect a certain kind of craziness from Ke$ha and the outspoken pop star hasn’t let us down in her new video for the Will.I.Am featuring new single, Crazy Kids.

We guess, given that in her previous two videos for the singles to come off latest album Warrior saw her starting a cult and getting kidnapped respectively, just throwing a house party for Crazy Kids is pretty low key. This being Ke$ha though it’s anything but, with bodybuilders, pitbulls, a load of Duck Dynasty cast-offs and even Will.I.Am as a pinball playing astronaut turning up to get involved in the revelry. There’s a swimming pool there too of course, so all the hunks can strut their stuff around it, while the neighbors would surely be kicking off at such a scene.

There’s very little to ‘get’ about Ke$ha: she’s wild, doesn’t care what people think of her and likes to have a good time. So it goes here, with Crazy Kids merely reinforcing the commitment to partying that the pop star holds dear. Released last December, Warrior only enjoyed a fraction of the success that the star’s first album Animal gained. It reached number six in the US Billboard album charts, though shifted 215,000 copies domestically, compared to the 1.4 million of Animal that was sold.

Backtrack: Ke$ha Admits She Was Never Forced To Sing ‘Die Young’

Kesha

Where a simple, understated apology probably would have done the trick, Kesha seems to have gotten herself in quite a spin over the issue of her single ‘Die Young’ being pulled from radio stations in the wake of the Newtown shootings. To briefly recap, after 26 people (20 of whom were young school children) were killed by a gunman at an elementary school in Connecticut on Friday December 14, 2012. Ke$ha’s sngle ‘Die Young’ was withdrawn from radio stations, so as not to offend people affected by the tragedy.

Ke$ha’s initial response was to say that she had been ‘forced’ to sing the lyrics. She made the statement via Twitter, a medium of communication cursed, in this instance, by its 140 character limit. Having stated that she was concerned about singing the lyrics to Die Young, in fear of an event like this, Kesha’s comments were met, by many, with an arched eyebrow and an air of disbelief. Forced to sing the lyrics? That seemed hard to believe.

On December 20, Kesha decided that she needed a little more than 140 characters to explain herself properly and posted a message on her website. “After such a tragic event I was feeling a lot of emotion and sadness when I said I was forced to sing some of the lyrics to Die Young,” read the statement. “Forced is not the right word. I did have some concerns about the phrase ‘die young’ in the chorus when we were writing the lyrics especially because so many of my fans are young and that's one reason why I wrote so many versions of this song. But the point of the song is the importance of living every day to the fullest and staying young at heart, and these are things I truly believe.” Next time you have a sensitive issue to address, may we suggest that Twitter possibly isn’t the best place to do so, Ke$ha?

Ke$ha Not As Sorry About ‘Die Young’ Lyrics As She Claims?

Kesha

Despite claiming that she was practically forced into singing her latest single, ‘Die Young,’ it appears as though Ke$ha may not be as apologetic about some lyrics as she claims she is, after it has been reported that she was bragging about the song only days earlier.

According to TMZ, Ke$ha could hardly have been more positive when she promoted the song during a radio interview in November. Ke$ha reportedly said: "I definitely make sure that every word rings true to me because I would never want to misrepresent myself to millions of people around the world ... I wrote and rewrote and rewrote that song ten times."

This gainsays the Tweet Ke$ha posted on Twitter yesterday (Dec 19) following the decision by several radio stations around America to pull the song from their playlists in light of the Sandy Hook tragedy. Ke$ha had initially posted, "I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO," which is quite a contrast form the tune she was singing not long ago.

Was Ke$ha Forced To Sing Die Young Lyrics?

Kesha

Since Ke$ha's song 'Die Young' has been removed from radios across the USA to show respect to the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut last week, she has apologized for the song and claimed she was forced to sing the lyrics, but the latter comes in distinct contrast to an interview that she gave to a New York radio station.

According to TMZ she told the station: "I definitely make sure that every word rings true to me because I would never want to misrepresent myself to millions of people around the world ... I wrote and rewrote and rewrote that song ten times."

She expressed her remorse for the song 'Die Young', the lyrics of which includes the lyrics 'We're gonna die young' over and over again. She tweeted an apology though, saying "I'm so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy.and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express." However, according to Access in one tweet that has since been removed she defended herself, arguing that she was forced to sing that song: "I understand. I had my very own issue with 'die young' for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO," she said.

Albums of Note... It looks as though Bruno Mars has stepped things up a gear on Unorthodox Jukebox. From straight-up pop songs, to disco and funk stylings, and a nod to reggae in there too, Mars very rarely fails to hit the mark with these new tracks. “Unorthodox Jukebox is a rich pick and mix of different and colourful elements. His lyrics sometime fall short, but a likeably mischievous personality shines through nonetheless, and so on the whole this is a real step up even from the songs that broke him so hugely two years ago.”

Adding a fresh slant to the out-dated genre of twee-duets, Adam Green & Binki Shapiro release a self-titled album of brief ditties, which may appear cutesy at first glance but soon reveal their darker side, with lyrics such as “I can't be the first to say you're the worst, surely there's one or two? / I care more if you act as though you like me than if you really do.” Adam Green is probably the better known of the two, from his work as part of Moldy Peaches and of course his solo work, too. Binki Shapiro already has indie cred from her other band, Little Joy. “Like everything the pair have done individually, together they have made a record that's short, sweet, and maturely macabre; a late contender for an album of the year.”

Out Now: US Album Releases - Ke$ha, Paloma Faith, Wiz Khalifa, Scott Walker

Kesha Paloma Faith Wiz Khalifa Rihanna Scott Walker

So, Rihanna finally bumped Taylor Swift from the top of the US album charts, with the aptly-titled Unapologetic. Could it be that Ke$ha does the same to her Barbadian pop rival, with the release of Warrior, her second studio album?

The 25 year-old Californian has never been afraid of raising a few eyebrows and Warrior sees no change in her artistic determination. Drownedinsound.com reviewed the album describing it as “never dull, always fun and frequently a thrillingly unpredictable ride,” with All Music Guide backing up that theory, calling it a “wall-to-wall party for the freaks, burnouts, outcasts and misfits and if you don’t get it that’s your fault and not hers.” Strong words indeed and certainly a more passionate critical response than Rihanna received for Unapologetic.

Rhi-Rhi’s certainly got more celebrity pull than Ke$ha, but if the public latch on to the enthusiastic response to Warrior, could we see another upset at the top of the charts next week? Her last album, 2010’s Animal, was a US number one so we see no reason why the exuberant club queen shouldn’t be up there again this time next week.

Reviews Round-Up: Ke$ha's Warrior Struggles In Battle To Impress Critics

Kesha

As divisive as ever, Ke$ha’s return with her second album Warrior has once again split the critics, with some lauding the pop star’s larger than life persona and others construing it as trashy and cheap.

Warrior came out this week on RCA records and is expected to do well regardless, but just how well? If the critics are anything to go by then it could be disappointing return for the 25 year-old. At the top end, Drowned In Sound are writing “It's undeniably bats**t insane, but Warrior is never dull, always fun, and frequently a thrillingly unpredictable ride,” with the Evening Standard saying “Purists may sneer but this is an untrammeled pop delight”. However at the other end of the spectrum, The Guardian are pretty unfussed, despite pointing out that “Self-styled bad girl Kesha Sebert has decided not to fix what ain't broke”. Evidently they weren’t too impressed with what wasn’t broken first time round.

The Arts Desk meanwhile can’t get beyond the marketed nature of it all, writing “Sure, she’s a feisty one, but primarily Ke$ha is a calculated package from the stable of New York producer-svengali Lukasz "Dr Luke" Gottwald, the chap also behind Katy Perry’s rise to fame.” Listening to the LP even as we type, we have to say we’re veering somewhere around these sentiments, the cold glimmer of major pop sheen blunting any of Ke$ha’s outlandish character – which may be a good thing for some.

Enough To Make You Blush - Ke$ha Launches 'Die Young' Video

Kesha

Kesha has finally unveiled the video for her new single ‘Die Young’ and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Not if you’re a fan of Ke$ha, at least. And especially not if you’re a fan of the thought of Ke$ha in a skimpy black leather bikini. In the video, Ke$ha plays a cult leader and emerges from a hearse at the start of the movie. What follows is a series of ritualistic scenes as she dances in front of a pentagram, interspersed with ‘80s style disco graphics (you know… the usual combination…) and some raunchy dance routines. As the chorus kicks in, the raunch factor pretty much sky rockets through the roof. This one should definitely come with a parental advisory label, folks.

By the end of the video there are shots of her writhing around wearing a very small white bikini. “That magic in your pants is making me blush,” in one of her more inspired poetic moments. Well, you’re not the only one blushing here, Ke$ha, that’s for sure. The song itself debuted back in September and has already been selling – it made the top ten in Australia already and peaked at number four in the US.

So, Is Ke$ha’s New Single ‘Die Young’ Any Cop?

Kesha Perez Hilton

Kesha has set the pop world in a spin with her new single ‘Die Young.’ In true Ke$ha style, the track is an uncompromising slice of up-tempo pop with clipped drum beats, heavy synths and, of course, Kesha’s trademark rapping. The chorus features the lines “I hear your heart beat to the beat of the drums / It’s such a shame that you came here with someone / So while you’re here in my arms / Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young.” So far the song seems to have won over those that have caught a first glimpse of the track.

Perez Hilton nailed his colours to the mast pretty firmly, with the headline “Ke$ha’s New Single Die Young Is A Killer!” and posted the song on his blog for fans to listen to. Hilton said the song “has us getting up and dancing like there’s no tomorrow” and seems that he’s not the only one. The team over at Popcrush.com were equally excited at the prospect of a new single from the 25 year-old American and surmised that it had been “well worth the wait.”

Over on Twitter, the response has been equally enthusiastic. The user Obsessed With Cody (@Ria11Rialove) posted a message to say “What is the most important thing that you should do to... — listen to Ke$ha's new song DIE YOUNG which is amazing.” Chuckie Finster was just as excited, though his finger seemed to have got stuck on the ‘E’ button, as he said “KESHA'S NEW SONG IS FIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.” It’s not all good news though: Spin magazine’s Marc Hogan called the single “disappointing.” We reckon a few more spins will win him over though.
