The Lego Movie beat out two 80s remakes this weekend. Cue conclusions about generational gaps and pop culture.
Sunday night is box office night, so let’s talk numbers. The clear winner of box office charts, profits, moviegoers’ hearts and life in general is The Lego Movie. The tiny yellow figurines held their own against a slew of 80s remakes this weekend, including the highly anticipated, but critically panned Robocop.
Doesn't this just look so appealing?
According to USA Today, The Lego Movie passed the $100 million mark on its second outing during Valentine’s Day weekend, making it one of the most profitable movies of 2014 so far. The Movie raked in $48,8 million over the weekend, bringing its total to $129,1 million.

Meanwhile, in 80s remake news, Kevin Hart’s About Last Night took second place with $29 million. Not a bad number, considering the remake left critics mostly unimpressed, with most saying it added little to the original. This is Hart’s second film this year – two in two months is quite an achievement – after his cop comedy Ride Along opened to $41,5 million in January.

RoboCop, on the other hand, didn’t get nearly as much love from critics. it managed to attract $21.5 million and third place. The $100 million picture met most analysts' expectations and has done $26.5 million since its release Wednesday. Meanwhile, its Rotten Tomatoes score is pretty disappointing. With just 49%, this one registers as not quite terrible, but not worth the ticket either.
Despite nicely chromed black look, RoboCop is little more than a blast from the past.
