In the least surprising television news of the week, Netflix's signature political drama House of Cards has been renewed for season 4. The drama series is coming of wins at the Golden Globe and SAG Awards - for its star Kevin Spacey.

Netflix renewed the drama on Thursday, announcing that it will go back into production this summer for a 2016 premiere date (probably in February of March).

If, somehow, you're unfamiliar with House of Cards, it stars Spacey and Robin Wright as a Washington power couple. In the most recent season, Spacey's character Frank, after clawing his win into the Oval Office, was in the midst of his first term as president of the United States. The season came to a close during his bid for re-election.

House of Cards won three Emmy awards for its first season 2013, including best director for David Fincher. Wright won a Golden Globe in 2014 while Spacey won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this year.

Adapted from the BBC series of the same name, House of Cards was Netflix's first move into original series and its success has led to the commissioning of other shows like Marco Polo, Hemlock Grove, Bojack Horseman, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Orange is the New Black and Bloodline, which was renewed for season two on Tuesday.

House of Cards season 3 received mainly positive reviews from critics.

"Spacey plays Underwood with his usual unctuous aplomb, and Claire's crazy controlled persona is on full display, but with private moments of longing and neediness that are wonderful to behold," said Robert Rorke of the New York Post.
