Christopher Plummer will be replacing the disgraced actor in the film.
Though removing Kevin Spacey from upcoming Ridley Scott film 'All The Money In The World' was undoubtedly the best decision after a slew of accusations against the actor, alleging sexual assault at various stages over the past 30 or so years, it's not going to be a cheap move to pull off. The film's set to hit the big screen in just over a month, and with Christopher Plummer jumping on board in the role of billionaire J. Paul Getty, those working on the picture have to pull out all the stops to make sure it'll be ready in time.
Kevin Spacey will be replaced in the film by Christopher Plummer
Sony and the film's financiers Imperative Entertainment were thinking about pushing the movie back to a January 2018 release, but with FX series 'Trust' from Danny Boyle also exploring the story of Getty's kidnapping, they're keen to not have to go to battle with the show, keeping their USP with a December drop.
According to Variety, Imperative will take on the cost of reshoots, with eight days allocated to the reshoots and a figure north of $10 million expected to be added onto the film's budget. Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams will also have to return for the reshoots, filming the scenes they had with Spacey all over again and being paid their pro-rated weekly rate if they've already exceeded the amount of reshoots they had written into their contracts.
Whilst it may have been discussed to have Plummer work in front of a green screen and then have him put into the film with visual effects rather than bringing everybody back in, it would seem that idea has been shot down in favour of the more natural approach.
Whatever the case may be, those who have worked on the movie are hopeful that in taking Spacey out of the film, they will attract a wider audience and make their reshoot money back, along with their budget and a nice profit. We'll have to see how it does in the box office come December...
