Everyone’s favourite terrorism drama 24 is making a return to television next year in a special 12-hour event, Fox announced today (Monday 13th May). Kiefer Sutherland makes his much-anticipated return as the unrelenting Jack Bauer – a man who will stop at nothing to spot terrorism.

“The response to ‘24’ is unlike anything I have ever experienced as an actor before,” Mr. Sutherland said in a statement. “To have the chance to reunite with the character, Jack Bauer, is like finding a lost friend.” He thanked the producers and Fox for the opportunity and added, “Make no mistake, my goal is to knock your socks off. See you soon.” Instead of every episode representing an hour, in a series of 24, though, this season will only comprise of 12 episodes for a 12-week run. Howard Gordon, an executive producer of the series, said in a statement on Monday that the Bauer character “has evolved through the years, and this new and exciting event series format is perfect to tell the next chapter of his story and continue to reflect how the world is changing.”

In its day, 24 would regularly attract 10-15 million viewers and one of the most popular television shows of all time. It became particularly popular on DVD due to the ‘24’ format, meaning it was ripe for ‘binge viewing’, recently made popular by streaming services such as Netflix.
