The Pixies Release First New Music In 9 Years! [Listen]

The Pixies Kim Deal

The Pixies released a brand new track on Friday (June 28), uploading the new tune 'Bagboy' to their website to stream and download (for free!). The track may be an indication that the remaining three members of the group are planning on going forward even without bassist Kim Deal, who left the group earlier this month, or it may just be something they had been working on and wanted to get out there now rather than waiting until the Best Of.

The group also brought out a video for the track too, directed by Lamar + Nik, which you can check out below too.

The Pixies New Song 'Bagboy' Debuts After 10 Years Of Silence [Listen]

The Pixies Frank Black Kim Deal

A new Pixies song 'Bagboy' debuted on the legendary band's official website on Friday morning (June 28, 2012) following its first play on Shaun Keaveny's BBC6 Music radio show. It is the group's first new material for over 10 years.

Bagboy is signature Pixies and features Frank Black yelling the chorus in typically shouty style. Though the song garnered almost universal acclaim on Twitter, many UK fans couldn't help but make the comparison between Frank's vocals and the voice of Brian Badonde, the charlatan art critic on Channel 4's Facejacker.

Kim Deal Leaves The Pixies, Possibly For Good This Time

Kim Deal The Pixies

After nearly a decade back together, The Pixies look as though they're ready to fall apart again after bassist Kim Deal walked out on the band earlier this week. In a statement posted on the group's official Facebook page, the three remaining members of the group told fans that Kim had decided to leave the group by mutual consent, with the rest of the band thanking her for her contribution of the past 25 or so years.

Black Francis/Frank Black, Joey Santiago and Dave Lovering signed off on a statement that detailed Kim's decision and thanked her for her enduring contribution to the band during the good and the bad times. It read; "We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best."

Kim meanwhile is still on course to continue touring with her band The Breeders, who she formed during the break-up of the Pixies in the early 90's (the band eventually split in 1993 before getting back together for a series of tours in 2004). Deal co-founded The Breeders with her twin sister Kelley and is currently touring on the back of the 20th anniversary of their first album, Last Splash.

The Pixies Bassist Kim Deal Leaves The Group

Kim Deal The Pixies

The bassist and co-founder of the popular alt-rock group The Pixies, Kim Deal, has left the group today (June 14), with her decision to walk out on the influential band being announced in a statement posted on the Pixies' official Facebook page. The statement read; "We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best."

Deal has most recently been busy touring with her group the Breeders, which she formed during the break up of The Pixies in 1993, with the group touring on the 20th anniversary of their 1993 album Last Splash. Throughout the band's 25 years of existence, Kim has been an integral part to the band and it had seemed that the group were beginning to act more and more like a band following their hiatus during the 90's and earlier 00's, with rumblings of a new album surfacing on and off for the last two years or so after the band's drummer, David Lovering, hinted at it during a Rolling Stone interview in 2011.

Deal became involved in the band when she answered an ad in the Boston Phoenix in 1986, posted by frontman Frank Black/Black Francis. The tensions between the pair ultimately led to their downfall and the band split after four albums in 1993, although the band did reunite in 2004 to tour again and have performed sporadically since, including a long-tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their seminal 1989 album Doolittle.
