Kim Kardashian and Kanye West just upped the stakes on their upcoming wedding by not only picking the picturesque Italian city of Florence for their nuptials but also hiring an imposing Italian fortress to put a unique stamp on their union.

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West Will Reportedly Get Married In Florence.

The couple will marry next weekend in front of 1000 guests at the famous Florentine landmark Forte Belvedere, Kanye's close friend Italian fashion designer Ermanno Scervino has confirmed. The fancy fort was built in the sixteenth century for the ruling Medici family of Florence, and has a dark history, including the deaths of two young people who separately fell from the ramparts in 2006 and 2008.

Elisa Di Lupo, a spokeswoman for the Mayor of Florence, confirmed the booking to the Associated Press, revealing that the pair are set to wed in Florence next Saturday and that the landmark was rented for 300,000 euros (£245,000; $410,000). She said a a Protestant minister will preside over the nuptials.

The rapper is reportedly currently staying with Scervino outside the city as final preparations are made. He told Italian newspaper La Nazione why the city is special for him and Kim: "For me Florence is the most beautiful European city and one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

"But the real reason is that Kim and I were on the banks of the river Arno last year on our own incognito. And I think that our daughter North was conceived here amongst the Renaissance masterpieces. It was as if it was our first honeymoon," West explained.

"It's true. Ermanno has been helping Kanye organise the wedding in Forte Belvedere. They met in Paris earlier this year and have become great friends," the designer's spokesperson confirmed. The designer's involvement in Kim and Kanye's preparations has sparked rumours that it will be he, and not Givenchy as was rumoured, who will be creating the outfits the couple will wear on their big day.

The confirmation that the "Kimye" wedding is set for Florence conflicts with the previously reported news that the couple had their heart set on Paris. Leaked invites apparently proposed dinner in Paris on May 23 at 6 pm with attendees instructed to wear cocktail attire. However, Entertainment Tonight clears up the confusion by reporting that after the meal the guests will be whisked away in private planes to Florence for the actual wedding ceremony the next day.
