Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Review

If there's something to take away from this year's Isle of Wight Festival, it's probably sunburn. Unlike the mud bath of two years ago, 2014 will be remembered for serving up one of the hottest weekends I can remember for a festival, along with some crowd-pleasing performances. While not every act managed to capture their moment in the sun, all the major names delivered in spades.

Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Review

But it wasn't just the music that made the weekend for many; a real sense of celebration seemed to erupt across the site. Partly fuelled by anticipation over the World Cup and partly because of the good weather, thousands of smiling faces could be seen everywhere. Sunflowers seemed to be an essential festival accessory and many opted for as few clothes as possible with t-shirts looking like they'd gone out of fashion altogether. I've even had to make a note in my diary that it's international flip-flop day on June 20th, just one of the many things I learnt around Seaclose Park this year.

The highlight of Friday afternoon should have really been local boy Tom Odell on the main stage. But his piano led ballads took some time to win the crowd over despite his number 1 album 'Long Way Down'. By the time he'd finished though, the reaction showed that he'd justified his place on the main stage billing.

The Isle of Wight Festival 2014 is underway and it’s looking like it’s set to be a scorcher of a weekend! The Met Office has forecasted dry and sunny weather with temperatures reaching 22°C.  British festival-goers will have their fingers crossed that this unusual weather carries on for the rest of festival season, although that may be seriously wishful thinking.  With Glastonbury right around the corner we can only hope that the typical torrential rain of festival season doesn't start to set in.

Scheduled to appear tonight at the Isle of Wight Festival are big name acts Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris, Rudimental, Tom Odell, Starsailer and Lawson, with Katy B appearing at the Big Top. The rest of the weekend is jam-packed acts including the eagerly awaited Red Hot Chili Peppers, who will take to the main stage on Saturday night. Saturday also belongs to Cher Lloyd, Dappy and The Pretty Reckless among other acts.

Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Preview

With just hours until thousands of people flock to Portsmouth and Southampton for their annual ferry trip to the Isle of Wight Festival, it's time to look ahead to the first big event in the summer festival calendar.

Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Preview

Twelve years since the festival was resurrected, organiser John Giddings has steered Isle of Wight from strength to strength. With around 60,000 punters travelling to the Island, it's not just Seaclose Park that's transformed for the weekend, there's a real community spirit that's evident as buses wind their way towards the festival site. Past years have seen a surprise appearance from Kanye West for Jay-Z's headline set, rock royalty like Jagger, McCartney and Neil Young take to the main stage, and bands such as the Foo Fighters casually chatting to fans on the car ferry. This year looks like it will live up to the festival's reputation without a repeat of 2012's well-publicised mud bath. Although there's perhaps not many surprises on the line-up, there's still plenty to look forward to.

But far from a nostalgia act, George is touring his first album of original material in 18 years. He's embraced DJ culture and is likely to put on an impressive show whether he's behind the turntable or the microphone.

Lollapalooza Line-Up 2014: Your Guide To The 3 Day Extravanganza

Lollapalooza Eminem Kings Of Leon Arctic Monkeys Outkast

Lollapalooza has sold out of three-day general tickets. Got that? No more tickets. Which is a shame, considering that one hell of a line-up has just been announced including Eminem, Kings Of Leon and Outkast. More than 100 bands and artists will perform on eight stages at Grant Park - and there's still an opportunity to see some of your favorite bands.

Lollapalooza

One-day passes to the extravaganza are still available, though, of course, it means that you need to be pretty selective with who you're wanting to see perform. One-day passes are pretty reasonably priced at $100 - which is pretty damn good considering the amount of bands you're going to see.

Kings Of Leon have continued the current trend of arty and thoughtful music videos with their new single, 'Beautiful War,' from Mechanical Bull. The 6 minute long film stars Tron actor Garrett Hedlund who plays a man supposedly struggling with his inner demons whilst trying to defend his pride.

Kings Of Leon Rock Global Citizen 2013 In The Name Of Ending Worldwide Poverty

Kings Of Leon Alicia Keys Stevie Wonder John Mayer

The Global Citizen festival is now in full swing after a roaring start last night (Saturday, September 28,) courtesy of Kings Of Leon. The band played to an enthusiastic crowd of some 60,000 people, with the gig being dedicated to ending world poverty. The band kicked off the charity concert with their latest single Supersoaker, a bright, uptempo guitar track perfect for the occasion.

Kings of Leon, V Festival
It was a solid festival set from the Kings, featuring a lot of fan favorites.

They soon dialed it back, however, with an earlier hit – The Bucket. Things got even more electrifying when the band had gotten warmed up and powered straight through Don’t Matter and a nice mix of old and new power anthems like Family Tree, Beautiful War and that classic Sex on Fire got turned into a crowd pleasing sing-along. KoL ended the set with another fan favorite – Use Somebody, before clearing the stage for John Mayer, followed by Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder. It was a solid, if ever so slightly predictable set from the band, however many reviewers noted that the Kings sounded surer than they have in previous years.

Kings Of Leon Reveal That They're Considering Dropping 'Sex On Fire' From Live Shows

Kings Of Leon

King of Leon are apparently tired of playing their hit song 'Sex on Fire' during their live shows, so much so that they often consider dropping the hit single from their live sets. Frontman Caleb Followill recently revealed that he and the rest of the bad are finding the prospect of playing their most successful song over and over again very tedious, as they have found that their fans aren't nearly as responsive to the less well-known songs from their back catalogue.

Kings of Leon
The band are apparently tired of their biggest hit.

Followill was speaking with Shortlist magazine when he ask asked whether he would ever consider dropping 'Sex on Fire' from the band's live sets, to which he responded with a relatively affirmative reply. He said, "I would say two years back it was definitely a thing where we'd play some of our deeper-cut songs – all sorts of rarities – and people would all go get a beer or take a piss. Then 'Sex On Fire' would happen and we were just like, 'Aargh!' I've come to terms with it. Playing that song, it's like a pat on the back to think we created it. No matter where we go it always gets that reaction."

Austin City Limits Music Festival is set to hit Texas for its twelfth year, bringing with it two weekends of fabulous live music and family fun.

The festival organisers first decided to spread the fun out over two weekends last year, in a bid to welcome yet more people into this unique world, and it appears that they haven't gone back on their word as they are set to return to Zilker Park on October 4th - 6th and 11th - 13th. This year sees some impressive headline acts including Depeche Mode, The Cure, Muse and Kings Of Leon - and if that wasn't exciting enough, Atoms For Peace, Lionel Richie, Phoenix and Wilco are also high up on this year's bill! Some of the other acts scattered around are just as jaw-droppingly impressive, not to mention extremely diverse. We have Californian rockers Queens Of The Stone Age, country star Hank Williams Jr.'s daughter Holly Williams, Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar, LA sisters Haim, alt-folk group Thao & The Get Down Stay Down Nottingham singer Jake Bugg and legendary 'Gay Bar' hitmakers Electric Six.

Kings Of Leon - Wait For Me Single Review

The kings of iconic, alternative garage rock Kings Of Leon follow up 'Supersoaker' with the release of 'Wait For Me' due to be featured on their 6th Studio Album, 'Mechanical Bull'.

Kings of Leon - Wait For Me Single Review

What is immediately made clear through the mellow guitar arpeggios is that 'Wait For Me' is going to be an intimate, introspective Kings of Leon song similar to previous releases 'Pyro', 'Mi Amigo' and 'Trunk' rather than one of their rock-punk jams such as 'Molly's Chamber' and 'Red Morning Light'.

The instantly distinguishable, adenoidal vocals of Caleb Followill are emphasised above the simplistic instrumentation expressing his broad range of tone and ability to extend individual words into grainy multi-pitched song lyrics to compliment the simplistic guitars and minimalistic drums.

Kings Of Leon Reveal New Song 'Wait For Me' From Fifth Album [Video] [Audio]

Kings Of Leon Caleb Followill Jared Followill

Kings Of Leon have unveiled the second single from their upcoming fifth record, Mechanical Bull, entitled 'Wait For Me.' We've already heard 'Supersoaker' after they debuted the lead single live in New York and thought it was mechanical marvelousness but could the band's second single live up to their first?

Kings Of Leon
Kings Of Leon Are Gearing Up To Drop Their Fifth Album, Mechanical Bull.

The answer is an emphatic yes: the strength of 'Wait For Me' lies in its stand-out chorus, slowed down tempo, thoughtful lyrics and back-to-roots earnest guitar work. "It's all better now, it's all better now, wait for me," sings Caleb Followill during the rather anthemic chorus, mixing his repeated lyrics with "woahs" over soaring guitar notes. It's easy to imagine the song becoming an end of show classic to unite the crowd and band.

Kings Of Leon Tease New Album With Upbeat Single "Supersoaker"

Kings Of Leon

Kings Of Leon are showering fans with blessings in the form of new track Supersoaker and an upcoming album. If you’ve enjoyed the band’s sound since their breakout in 2008 with the single Use Somebody, then Supersoaker should be right up your alley.

With power quitars, an energetic drumline and, of course, the distinctive raspy vocals of frontman Caleb Followill, it’s the KoL sound we all know and love, only updated enough to not sound like the song was produced in 2008. Speaking of production, for this track it is the work of Angelo Petraglia. It features the usual style of catchy and only slightly questionable lyrics: “I find to super soak girls all the time, I just get on the line, all night”  We warned you.

Kings Of Leon have released 'Supersoaker,' the first single from their forthcoming album Mechanical Bull. The soulful effort features the band's signature anthemic guitar bursts and Caleb Followill's scowling vocals. All in all, it's pretty standard fare from the Nashville four-piece and it suggests more of the same for the band's sixth LP.
