Kristen Stewart has spoken about her decision not to define her sexuality yet, and has denied that she has any responsibility to so in order to be “an example” to the outside world.

The 26 year old star of Twilight recently took part in a cover shoot for Variety, and opened up about her refusal to be labelled, in the wake of reports that she’s broken up with her girlfriend Stephanie Sokolinski, a French singer known as Soko.

“Me not defining it right now is the whole basis of what I'm about,” she argued. “If you don't get it, I don't have time for you.”

“There's acceptance that's become really rampant and cool,” she added. “You don't have to immediately know how to define yourself.”

Stewart doesn’t want to be held up as an example before figuring this out for herself, as she feels that sending the right message to members of the LGBTQ community is “so important” for society and that it would be wrong of her to be any of kind of figurehead right now.

“I didn't want to be this example… [but] I don't want it to seem like it was stupid for them to have a hard time.”

Before dating Soko, Stewart reportedly dated her personal assistant Alicia Cargile soon after breaking up with Robert Pattinson, her Twilight co-star and her on/off boyfriend for over five years, in 2013.

While in these relationships, Stewart confessed that she frequently struggled with her sexual identity before eventually giving up trying to define it altogether.

“I had to have some answer about who I was,” she remembered about that time. “I felt this weird responsibility, because I didn't want to seem fearful. But nothing seemed appropriate. So I was like, 'f***, how do I define that? I'm not going to'. Plus, I didn’t want to f*** with other people.”
