The writer who gave the Snow White fairytale a revamp for Kristen Stewart has been asked to work his magic on Angelina Jolie's new Sleeping Beauty movie Malificent.

Writer/director John Lee Hancock has been brought in to rework scenes on the big-budget Disney movie prior to a series of reshoots that are not expected to feature Jolie.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the Snow White and the Huntsman screenwriter and The Blind Side director will also oversee the reshoots.

Oscar-winning production designer Robert Stromberg is making his directorial debut on the estimated $200 million (£125 million)-budget fantasy.

Producer Joe Roth tells the publication, "We asked him to be on set. He's not directing. He wrote pages and I hired a first-time director and it's good to have him on set."

Roth insists the film looks stunning, but studio bosses at Disney want to rework the first scenes.

He adds, "The movie is gorgeous to look at and the last 75 minutes are really entertaining."

Jolie has wrapped her work on the project and is currently in Australia preparing to start shooting her latest directorial adventure Unbroken - the biopic of World War Ii hero Louis Zamperini.
