If you’re a fan of comedy, sarcasm, Saturday Night Live or just good things in general, here are some exciting news – Kristen Wiig is making a new movie! The movie’s plot is being kept tightly under wraps, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it is not a Bridesmaids sequel, but a standalone movie, although the as-of-yet unnamed project is likely to include some similar themes and, of course, Wiig's signature sense of humour.. It will, however, see Wiig team up with Bridesmaids co-screenwriter Annie Mumolo and helm the movie herself in what will be the breakout comedy star’s directorial debut.

A new project by Kristen Wiig? Yes please!

Wiig and Mumolo will also star as “best friends way over their heads and out of their element”. That’s all the plot info we’re getting at this point. No release date has been announced so far.

“We’re very excited to be writing,” Wiig and Mumolo said in a statement. “We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave. We found one that’s nice and big. We’re putting a couch in there.”

Wiig didn’t disclose the location of this “cave” though, presumably for security purposes. The success of Wiig and Mumolo’s 2011 offering Bridesmaids was a surprise hit at the box office, earning $288.4 million worldwide and opening the gates for a marked increase in female-driven comedies in recent years.

Annie Mumolo
Annie Mumolo will join the Saturday Night Live alumna as co-star and screenwriter.
