Kristin Chenoweth is "forever grateful" to her adoptive parents for taking her in.
The 56-year-old Broadway star was adopted by Jerry and Junie Chenoweth when she was just five days old and on Monday (29.07.24) evening, she took to social media to thank her parents for "blessing" her with the life she has today.
She wrote on Instagram: "Y’all might already know... but in my family we celebrated two birthdays. My true birthday (the 24th) and then my GOTCHA DAY! "Which is today... the 29th. It’s the day my parents adopted me. The day I became a Chenoweth. Gotcha days aren’t only for dogs, people!!!
"I’m forever grateful to my parents for bringing me into their home 56 years ago today. This life they’ve blessed me with is one I do not take for granted. I love you, mom and dad!!"
The former 'Pushing Daisies' actress - who originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch in the original Broadway production of 'Wicked' in 2003 opposite Idina Menzel - did eventually make contact with her birth mother Lynn and they remained in contact until her death 10 years later, but Kristin also admitted that her adoption was the "best thing" that could have ever happened to her.
In an op-ed for Huff Post, she said: "I can honestly say being adopted was one of the best things to ever happen to me.
"It was never something that was hidden from me and it is not something I have ever been ashamed of. I recognize how fortunate I am to have parents who love and support me unconditionally. The fact that they are not my biological parents does not change the fact that they are simply, my parents."
