Lady GaGa is famed for her eccentricity so it's no surprise that she covets the items of another great eccentric: Michael Jackson. This is probably why she spent $1,000,000 at an auction of his costumes and clothing.

The auction, held in Los Angeles on December 2nd at Julien's Auctions, was organised by Jackson's costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush with the aim of raising money for charities including Guide Dogs of America and a Las Vegas hospice reports the BBC. Gaga snapped up 55 items, which she tweeted about:

She also tweeted a photo of herself with her betting paddle, and her total $1m bids helped make the night's total $5m. Among the items sold were a jacket that Jackson wore during his 'Bad' tour, a pair of his jeans and two of his jewel encrusted gloves, which sold for $240,000, $40,000 and $100,000 each, respectively. As yet it's unclear what items Gaga bought, and despite her promise to care for them properly, some fans have expressed their displeasure at her plans to privately archive them, because they argue that he wanted them to be held in a museum. Despite these plans we wouldn't be surprised if she cracked out a few of the items in future videos and performances, to further pay homage to his memory.

Michael Jackson died in 2009, his doctor has since been charged with manslaughter for which he's serving four years in jail.
