Lady GaGa has swapped electric guitars and raucous drumkits for a piano for her new single which is entitled 'Dope.' Following the EDM-influenced 'Aura,' and pumped-up club numbers 'Applause' and 'What Do U Want' with R Kelly, 'Dope' presents an emotional outpouring that shows off the fantastic power of Gaga's vocals.

The Inez and Vinoodh artwork for the new track shows Gaga wearing scary and scary teeth and a severe, square-shouldered suit with black underwear and a hat. Gaga debuted the track at the recent YouTube awards, that commemorated the video website's talent in a glamorous ceremony.

At Pier 36 in New York City, Gaga gave a taut and emotional rendition of her track whilst playing piano and wearing a red checked shirt. When her voice reached its climactic heights, the audience screamed in recognition of the pop star's new work taken from her upcoming album, Artpop.

Spin described Gaga's as "one of the more bare-bones performances of the night," and praised the fearless performer who "cries as she sits behind the piano and sings her lungs out." The studio version differs from the live track in that a sombre smattering of synth is added, but nothing is taken away from Gaga's heart-rending lyrics.

Artpop will go on sale on the 11th November.
