The iconic Dallas character JR Ewing is being retired from the show’s revival and getting his own funeral. The second season of the reboot begins next week and, while the funeral hasn’t been shot or even scheduled yet, TNT has said that it will definitely be one of the key points of the 15-episode season.

Larry Hagman, who portrayed JR Ewing on the show, died on November 23, 2012, at the age of 81. Presumably, the fictional funeral will be held as a proper sendoff for Hagman himself. The actor kept working on Dallas for some time, until close to his death and his character will appear in several episodes of the new season.

TNT spokeswoman Erin Felentzer commented that the network will not be revealing how JR will die on the show. The character has been a central figure in Dallas for sixteen seasons – most of the show’s duration. Fans of the show can only hope that Hagman’s memory will be honored and JR will go out with a bang. Dallas comes back in January. The season premiere of the show will air on TNT on January 28, 2013. Th eshow was rebooted this year, with great success, retaining some of teh original characters, such as JR Ewing and Sue Ellen.
