Lauryn Hill And Nas Team Up For Joint US Tour

Lauryn Hill Nas

What looks to be one of the most anticipated tours of the year kicks off this Fall with the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill joing rap hero Nas in seventeen different cities across all of North America. The pair have previously worked together way back in the 90s, but now they are back for a stage bonanza - literally - with two special guests.

It has been almost twenty years since the multi-Grammy Award winning Lauryn Hill released her first and only solo album 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' following her time with The Fugees, and longer since she and Nas collaborated on the 1996 single 'If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)' from the latter's second album 'It Was Written'. But they are uniting once again for a series of US and Canada performance dates.

Angry Concert-Goer Confronts Lauryn Hill On Her Late Arrival

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill has outraged her fans once again by showing up to a concert more than 2 hours after her scheduled time. It's not the first time the R&B star has left fans waiting around, but this time one fan confronted her about it.

Lauryn HillLauryn Hill refused to apologise for her late arrival

40-year-old Hill arrived at Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta on Friday (May 6th 2016) more than 2 hours late, which meant that she only ended up performing for a mere 40 minutes before the theatre insisted they needed to close the doors at 11pm. Despite the fact that her presence was met with some hearty boos from furious fans, Hill appeared unapologetic for her lateness.

Grammys President "Disappointed" At Lauryn Hill's Last Minute Cancellation

Lauryn Hill The Weeknd

The president of the Grammy Awards has expressed his “disappointment” at Lauryn Hill’s dramatic last minute no-show at last night’s awards ceremony, where she had been expected to take to the stage with The Weeknd.

The former Fugees singer, who hasn’t released an album in nearly two decades since her massive 1998 record The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, would have a surprise, unannounced addition to the nationally televised show last night, but she apparently pulled out of the duet just moments before she was due to go on stage with the ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ singer.

“It’s a disappointment to us and a disappointment to her,” said Grammys chief Neil Portnow to reporters the morning after. “Our intention was, and we were ready, right up to the moment of the performance, for her to step up on stage.”

Lauryn Hill Celebrates Being Released From Prison With Angry New Song [Listen]

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill completed her three month stay in prison for tax evasion earlier this week, and rather than spend her time behind bars twiddling her thumbs and staring at the wall, the former Fugees star was busy writing her newest single. 'Consumerism' isn't so much a celebration of her freedom, but rather - as the title suggests - a rallying call against the evils of capitalism and a consumerist lifestyle. You can stream the song below.

Lauryn Hill live
The song is a scathing attack on modern society

The socially-minded singer/rapper targets "corporate greed in Jesus’ name," as well as bemoaning the ills of ageism, sexism, racism, fascism, egoism and more, outlining the evils of "compromised commercialism" and "neo-McCarthyism." The track was accompanied by an open letter from Hill, both of which were posted on to her SoundCloud page this week, in which she described her thought process behind the song and how she had initially planned to have it released while she was in prison.

Hill did pay back $900,000 in an effort to save herself from jail but this was not enough to prevent her being locked up. Although 30-36 months is the length of jail time usually given to punish those who committed such crimes, Hill got off comparatively lightly with just three months behind bars.

Lauryn Hill, the Grammy-winners singer whose only solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill remains a classic of its generation, has begun a three month prison term for failing to pay taxes of around $1 million between the years 2005 and 2007, reports the Independent.

The singer-songwriter will serve her time at a minimum security prison in Danbury, Connecticut where inmates live in dormitories and are expected to perform maintenance, landscape and serve food. Essentially, it's not really a prison.

The singer, who gained fame with The Fugees, always maintained that she was planning on paying the taxes but was unable when he dropped out of the music business. Before her sentencing, her lawyer said Lauryn had paid more than $970,000 of the owed cash.

Lauryn Hill Defends Sony Deal On Tumblr Site

Lauryn Hill Fugees

Rumors that Lauryn Hill has signed a new deal with Sony Music are true, the singer has confirmed. However, the former Fugees star released a statement on her Tumblr page to say that the reported figures involved were far from the truth, as well as clarifying that she will be launching a new record label with Sony, rather than simply signing a record deal with them.

In a statement (which, if you really want to get into the machinations of record deals, artistry and the need to pay ones taxes, is slightly self-contradictory), Lauryn revealed “It has been reported that I signed a new record deal, and that I did this to pay taxes. Yes, I have recently entered into an agreement with Sony Worldwide Entertainment, to launch a new label, on which my new music will be released. And yes, I am working on new music.” That’s all very good news of course, though the message started to get slightly muddled when Lauryn started to defend herself and explain the reasons why she ended up in so much debt in the first place (we’re talking $504,000 arrears here).

“Only a completely complicated set of traps, manipulations, and inequitable business arrangements could put someone who has accomplished the things that I have, financially in need of anything,” she writes. “I am one artist who finds value in openly discussing the dynamics within this industry that force artists to compromise or distort themselves and what they do, rather than allowing them to make the music that people need. There are volumes that could (and will) be said.” Make of that what you will, folks. Using ‘the man’ to pay back ‘the man.’ Or something.

Lauryn Hill Evicted From House For That Thing: Failure To Pay Rent

Lauryn Hill

Oh Lauryn Hill, what’s happened to you! There you were in then 90’s, one of the leading faces of the neo-soul movement, selling millions with your band The Fugees on the back of a youthful-looking appearance in one of the Sister Act films, and now you can’t even pay your rent and look like you’re going to prison! Oh Lauryn…

Yep, it turns out that the soul singer is being sued for eviction by her landlord, after it was revealed by TMZ that she’s been squatting in her current place of living. Hill’s been living in a rented South Orange, New Jersey mansion since 2009 apparently, but she stopped paying the rent on it last month causing her landlord to go to the courts and give her the ultimatum of paying her rent right away or to find herself a new home. If this starts going the same way as the very similar plot to the film The House Of Sand from a few years ago things could be about to get very grim indeed.

Anyway, Hill hasn’t paid so it looks like she’s on her way out. On the, um, plus? side, she’s not going to need the house anyway, because she’s up before the beak next week, when she’ll be getting sentenced for tax fraud, which is set to land her several years in prison. Heart breaking really.

Wyclef Opens Up About Lauryn Hill Affair In New Memoir

Wyclef Jean Fugees Lauryn Hill

Wyclef Jean's new memoir Purpose: An Immigrant's Story gives a remarkable insight into the singers’ life, the break up of The Fugees, life post-earthquake and his run for presidency following the tragic natural disaster.

Speaking to MTV, the Haitian born rapper plans to write 7 books; his first one has only been in the shops for 24 hours! But it seems he has plenty of stories to tell. "I'm gonna write seven books, and the first one was a memoir because of one of the things I learned when I ran for president and got bamboozled," he explained. "The mass world, what they know about Wyclef is basically that he can sing, he can produce, he can write songs, but they don't know how smart musicians actually are and where they're from. The memoir, [it] was important to me that it's raw, it's honest, it's like my music and if you're reading it, you just feel like you're a one-on-one conversation opposed to reading something."

Jean’s surmise of The Fugees’ demise also leaves no room for questions; “In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that,” he writes, according to an excerpt from the New York Post. “She could not longer be my muse. Our love spell was broken.”

Lauryn Hill Branded A Liar In Wyclef Jean Memoir ‘Purpose’

Lauryn Hill Wyclef Jean Fugees Rohan Marley Oprah Winfrey

Lauryn Hill finds herself at the centre of some pretty damning allegations, courtesy of a new book, written by her former band mate Wyclef Jean. Hill and Jean were both members of the successful ‘90s hip-hop trio The Fugees. In a new book, entitled Purpose, Wyclef has revealed that he and Lauryn had an affair, which resulted in the band’s demise. Controversially, The New York Post has learned from the book, Wyclef claims that Lauryn lied to him about the paternity of her first born son.

Wyclef was married at the time of his affair with Lauryn and he claims that she tricked him into believing her firstborn son was his. In fact, the father of the son was Rohan Marley, Bob Marley’s son. “In that moment something died between us,” Wyclef writes in the book. “I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that.” Haitian-born Wyclef added that the conflict eventually led to the breakup of The Fugees. “She could no longer be my muse,” writes Jean. “Our love spell was broken.” Jean performed on Friday (September 15, 2012) at the HK Lounge in Hell’s Kitchen, along with the guitarist Prince Charming. The book itself is published today (September 18, 2012).

Lauryn Hill has been in the news with her own dramas recently as well. She was faced with a court battle after it was alleged that she had an unpaid tax bill of around $400,000. In August 2012, it was reported that she turned down an interview with Oprah Winfrey. These latest allegations will do little to help the singer’s public image.

Restaurant Review

Very Good
They might as well have called this movie J. T. McClure's, which is the name of the "restaurant" where all the film's characters work. That would have at least helped to add a little mystery and some flare to such a pitiable title. Thankfully, the film itself is a whole lot better than the name might indicate. Restaurant, directed by Eric Bross, spins the story of a group of young twenty-somethings struggling to reach their dreams of fame, while working at an upscale bar and grill in Hoboken, New Jersey. It's got that sort of Swingers humor and mentality, mixed with a diverse cast and much more serious themes.

Our protagonist is the restaurant's bartender, Chris Calloway (Adrien Brody - Summer of Sam, Six Ways to Sunday), a struggling playwright weaving his real life problems into his first play -- a work in progress that he can't seem to finish. When he meets the newest waitress Jeanine (Elise Neal - Mission to Mars) and they hit it off, he's faced with his second interracial relationship (the first being Lauryn Hill, who we see mostly as a picture on the refrigerator). Chris can't figure out why he likes black women so much, especially after his Italian father raised him to be a bigot. This dilemma is portrayed in his unfinished play, which is the story of a white man that can't deal with the external pressures of having a black girlfriend, even though he's madly in love. As he tries to make sense of his feelings, he gets caught up in the past when his ex (Hill) shows up at a friend's wedding. Because his relationship with her ended on such a bizarre note, he can't put it behind him, which prevents him from devoting his heart to Jeanine, and finally, thwarts him from finishing the play. Whew!
