Lena Dunham (born 13.05.1986) Lena Dunham is an American filmmaker and actress best known for being the creator and star of 'Girls'.

Childhood: Lena Dunham was born in New York City. Her parents are artist and photographer Carroll Dunham and Laurie Simmons. She attended Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn and studied creative writing at Oberlin College.

Film career: Lena Dunham wrote, directed and starred in the film 'Tiny Furniture' in 2010 and subsequently won an award for Best Narrative Feature at the South by Southwest Music and Media Conference. In 2012, she made a cameo appearance in 'Supporting Characters' alongside her 'Tiny Furniture' co-star Alex Karpovsky. In the same year, she published her first book, 'Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's Learned'. She appeared naked in the opening skit for the 2012 Emmy Awards. She debuted HBO TV series 'Girls' in 2012. It is executive produced by Judd Apatow. It has earned her four Emmy nominations and two Golden Globes. In 2013, she became the first woman to win a Directors Guild Award for Outstanding Director in a Comedy Series.

Personal life: Lena Dunham started dating fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff in 2012. Her political opinions include supporting same sex marriage legalisation and feminism.

Lena Dunham Admits Defending Accused Writer Was "A Mistake"

Actor and writer Lena Dunham has admitted that she made “a terrible mistake” in defending one of the writers on her television show ‘Girls’ after he was accused of rape.

In article published in the Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday (December 5th), Dunham apologised for publicly speaking out in defence of Murray Miller in November 2017, after he had been accused of sexually assaulting actress Aurora Perrineau five years previously, when she was just 17 years old.

Murray immediately denied what he called the “outrageous” accusations, but Dunham and her ‘Girls’ showrunner Jenni Konner issued a statement the same day that the allegation emerged.

Lena Dunham Sparks Backlash Over Syrian Refugee Movie Script

Lena Dunham is on the receiving end of a social media backlash after the news that she’s been commissioned to write the script for a film about a Syrian refugee who was stranded at sea.

It was revealed on Monday (October 29th) that Dunham was asked by filmmakers Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams to adapt the book ‘A Hope More Powerful Than The Sea’, the harrowing story of Doaa Al-Zamel, a Syrian refugee who survived the sinking of the boat on which she was attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea.

However, when Dunham, the creator of HBO’s successful series ‘Girls’, re-tweeted the Variety news article, she was immediately accused of being a part of a ‘whitewashing’ of the story.

The Girls star underwent a hysterectomy last year during which she had her uterus removed as a result of painful endometriosis and since then she has gone on to write and produce a new HBO comedy, Camping, starring Jennifer Garner.

Jennifer Garner To Return To TV In Lena Dunham's New Series 'Camping'

Jennifer Garner is set to make a return to television in a new HBO comedy series from ‘Girls’ co-creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner.

Garner, 45, will be taking on her first regular TV role since her acclaimed participation in ‘Alias’ ended after five seasons in 2006. She’s to head up ‘Camping’, a straight-to-series order from HBO that will consist of eight episodes penned and executive produced by Konner and Dunham, which was announced on Thursday (February 8th) and confirmed by Variety.

It will be a re-make of Julia Davis’ British sitcom of the same name that was broadcast to acclaim in April 2016, which concerned a disastrous family camping trip involving tension, domestic disputes and bears.

The highly anticipated seventh season of ‘American Horror Story’ has whetted the appetite of fans even further by revealing another high-profile cast addition, in the shape of ‘Girls’ creator Lena Dunham.

The FX horror anthology series revealed that 31 year old Dunham would be joining the already star-studded cast in a tweet via ‘AHS’ showrunner Ryan Murphy on Wednesday evening (July 19th).

“Thrilled that my talented friend Lena Dunham is joining the AMERICAN HORROR STORY family,” he wrote. “Always wanted to work together, and now we r!”
