The 'Girls' writer and star will go yellow later this year when she makes a guest appearance in Springfield.
We know that Lena Dunham is returning to our screens when the fourth season of ‘Girls’ takes its bow on HBO this weekend, but NYC is not the only place she’ll be appearing this year. Entertainment Weekly has revealed that she’ll also be seen in Springfield when she makes a guest appearance on ‘The Simpsons’.
The 28 year old actress and writer won’t be appearing as herself, or her ‘Girls’ character Hannah, however. She’ll be voicing a pharmacist called Candace who becomes romantically linked with Homer when he becomes diagnosed with narcolepsy, which makes him continually fall asleep.

The episode, which will be titled ‘Every Man’s Dream’, will be the curtain raiser for the 27th season in the fall. 'Simpsons'’ executive producer Al Jean said that Dunham’s casting was completely natural: “She’s not playing herself or Hannah from ‘Girls’. But it’s that funny, intellectual, slightly awkward, endearing tone that everybody’s familiar with, so we were just writing it with her voice in our heads.”
The plot line means that Homer and Marge’s marriage is on the rocks yet again, but Jean hinted that this episode would take a different perspective. “For those who are sick of marriage crisis episodes, it goes in a completely different direction than any before,” Jean said.
Created, written by and starring Dunham herself, comedy-drama ‘Girls’ has been hugely successful since it first appeared back in 2012. While season four’s broadcast is imminent, HBO also commissioned a fifth season earlier this week (January 6th).
Dunham’s casting will not be the first time that Springfield has had dealings with ‘Girls’. The show’s executive producer Judd Apatow wrote this Sunday’s episode of ‘The Simpsons’, which can be seen at 8pm on Fox. His episode apparently dates all the way back to 1990, when he penned a script that was ultimately unused before he found fame later that decade.
