'Cats On Broadway': Critics Find Too Much Popstar Glamour In Leona Lewis' Grizabella

Leona Lewis

Former 'X Factor' winner Leona Lewis made her Broadway debut on Sunday night, in a revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical Cats. Critics were divided on Lewis’ performance as Grizabella (the role which she took on after Nicole Scherzinger dropped out) with some praising her signing talents and others finding her portrayl of the aged cat more glamour than grit.

Leona LewisLeona Lewis has made her Brodway debut in ‘Cats’.

The Telegraph’s Dominic Cavendish found that while Lewis’ voice is “loud and clear”, it was “a touch too serene, needing more of a hint of the gutter.” He added that the singer appeared “coached in her moves, looks (far more than Scherzinger did) like she’s going through the motions.”

Leona Lewis Dropped From Her Record Label Island

Leona Lewis Simon Cowell The X Factor

Leona Lewis has been dropped by her record label Island after just over two years, following the disappointing commercial performance of her last album I Am.

The 31 year old English singer, who won the third series of ‘The X Factor’ in 2006 and has long been one of the most successful stars produced by that show, departed Simon Cowell’s Syco label in June 2014 and signed to rival Island. However, when the resulting record was released in September, it flopped.

Leona Lewis has been signed up to the latest Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Cats just weeks after Nicole Scherzinger reportedly pulled out to return to The X Factor judging panel. Her decision reportedly left Lord Lloyd-Webber "furious".

Unwrap Leona Lewis' Festive New Song, 'One More Sleep' [Video]

Leona Lewis Simon Cowell

Leona Lewis has released a very festive video for her new single, 'One More Sleep,' from her just-released Christmas-themed album, Christmas, With Love. The pop singer and former winner of The X Factor can be seen frolicking with friends in the snow, cooking food, playing party games and having a food fight in the warm and festive video.

However, the joyous music video is underpinned by a tinge of sadness as Leona laments a lover, singing "I can't believe I ever let you go" over a motown-inspired beat. The 28 year-old star recruits her real-life friends and lover Dennis Jaunch together in the video for a Christmas party to remember. The star confirmed this detail herself by tweeting "It's heeeeere buns! So much fun shooting this video with all my lovely family and friends in it! #OneMoreSleepVideo" to herald her new music's arrival.

Leona Lewis Making Foray Into Movie World With 'Holiday!'

Leona Lewis Katy Brand

Leona Lewis will make her film debut in a new musical titled Holiday! From the team behind the successful StreetDance franchise. The movie - described as a classic feel-good flick - also stars comedian Katy Brand and will feature the songs of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper.

Directed by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini, the movie could help Lewis recapture her past glory. She became one of biggest pop singers in the world following her X-Factor triumph, though her latest single Lovebird failed to chart in the Top 200. She is said to be readying a Christmas album, according to the Independent.

"Feeling very lucky to be part of a project in which everyone is so passionate and supportive of one another," she tweeted of her movie role, "I'm loving the experience."

Universal And Sony Lose Billions Of Views After Youtube Cleanup

Leona Lewis

Youtube has been cracking down on violations in its mysterious, but highly cited view count policy and the biggest channel to suffer? Universal Music.

It turns out that a lot of the views on the company’s music videos have been due to hacker activity. One of the biggest names to suffer was Leona Lewis, who got bumped down by 24 million hits. The fake views total over two billion, reports The Daily Mail, with Universal losing about a billion and Sony Music going down by 850 million views. That’s a whole lot of illegitimate hits.

The crackdown was so harsh, that Universal was left with just five videos on the site, none of which were music, and Sony had a mere three videos. It’s going to be difficult to recover from a blow like that, but Youtube’s view policies are very strict, as the site tries to do right by its multiple ad partners – the main source of profit.

Leona Lewis Swallows 'Bitter Pill' As New Song Fails To Break The Top 200

Leona Lewis

For a recording artist at the very beginning of their career, breaking into the music charts is like a dream come true. However, Leona Lewis - a seasoned pro - not breaking the top 200 chart with her latest single, 'Lovebird', is tantamount to a disaster.

A source told The Mirror: "This is a bitter pill to swallow for Leona and there is no sugar-coating it. The single was strong and should have done better but, unfortunately, there was no real marketing force behind it," adding, "It's a little embarrassing for the label because they have invested so heavily in Leona. Having said that, the album did really well and the main thing for Leona is that she's really proud of all the tracks. There are no fillers." Selling fewer than 600 copies in its first week, 'Lovebird', which comes from Leona's latest album Glassheart, came out on 9 December, but failed to make the top 200, making it her lowest-selling single ever. The source blamed lack of radio airplay and the fact that it "wasn't released as an official second single" for the disappointing performance.

'Trouble' feat Childish Gambino, the heavily promoted first single from her new album, did much better, making it into the Top 10 and peaking at No 7. Her failure to dominate the charts will come as stark reminder to recent X-Factor winner James Arthur, proving that simply winning the competition alone doesn't guarantee you unmitigated success.

Not 'Impossible' After All - James Arthur Bags Fastest-Selling X Factor Single

The X Factor James Arthur Shontelle Leona Lewis Matt Cardle Alexandra Burke Shayne Ward

This year’s x factor winner James Arthur has now beaten Alexandra Burke to have the fastest selling X Factor winner’s single since the show began. The song was released online almost immediately after he was announced as the winner. Just 24 hours later, the track had been downloaded over 187,000 times, The Independent reports. That’s a pretty impressive increase on the previous title holder; Burke’s version of ‘Hallelujah’ sold 147,000 in the same space of time back in 2008.

This year’s X Factor single is James Arthur’s ‘Impossible,’ a cover of the song by Shontelle. Comparing Arthur’s popularity to other recent years, Leona Lewis’ ‘A Moment Like This’ sold 101,000 and Matt Cardle sold 112,000. Out of the list of previous winners, of course, Cardle is the one to whom James Arthur should pay the most heed. Leona and Alexandra may have gone on to have successful careers but Cardle serves as a stark reminder that even with a huge PR machine behind them, X Factor winners can quite easily sink without trace once the initial hype has drifted away.

Keen to keep the fans that he does have on side, James was quick to show his gratitude on Twitter once the news of the sales figures broke. “Wow just seen the figures for the single sales and it’s blowing my mind! Thank you all for buying it on iTunes.” He’ll have to wait until the end of the week to see if he can keep up the momentum and beat Shayne Ward’s first week sales of 742,000.

Liam Payne: 'I'm Not Dating Leona!'

Liam Payne Leona Lewis One Direction Kim Kardashian

Liam Payne denies rumours that he is currently dating 2006 X Factor winner Leona Lewis in a recent Twitter post.

'Okay bored of constant news articles... I'm not dating Leona ... My YouTube channel isn't for a solo career and I didn't insult Kim k...Pow!', the One Direction singer posted on November 26th 2012. Liam, 19, and Leona, 27, were wrongly assumed to be dating for a few months with reports suggesting that they even shared a dressing room while performing on 'Children In Need' and asked not to be interrupted. The 'Bleeding Love' hitmaker made further suggestions that they were an item in an article in The Sun. 'You'd be surprised how much we have in common', she reportedly gushed. 'He's great. We see each other when we can. It's very flattering to get compliments like that. It's cute... I'm not saying [we're together]. I'm having fun and enjoying myself.' Reports even said that the boy band star was currently bulking up to impress his new girlfriend for a vacation they were to take together.

Liam also denied insulting reality star Kim Kardashian after apparently telling You magazine: 'I think of it like this: there are a lot of people who get paid a lot for doing not much at all-you know, like socialites who get paid for appearing in reality shows. But what we earn we earn for doing an awful lot'. These poor 1D guys just can't escape the tabloids!

"I'd Date Someone Younger" Was Leona Lewis Talking About Liam Payne?

Leona Lewis Liam Payne One Direction

Leona Lewis has fuelled rumours that she's dating One Direction singer Liam Payne, admitting that she wouldn't have a problem being in a relationship with someone younger. Lewis, 27, has been linked with the boy-band star since his break-up from girlfriend Danielle Peazer a couple of months ago.

When asked about her personal life, Lewis told Look magazine, "It's very flattering to get compliments like that. It's cute. If you have a bond with someone [age] doesn't come into it. I'd date someone younger or older, age doesn't matter to me. Or looks, really - it's all about maturity." So what does Lewis look for in a man? Apart from that he has to be in the world's biggest boy-band? Well, she says, "I like someone who can take the reins, who knows what they want and is strong with me. I'm quite fiery, so they have to be able to handle that. But I do like to feel protected. Also, being artistic and spiritual. That's what's important to me. And I'd never trust a man who can't dance." Well, Payne can most certainly dance! Or can he? Probably. He probably can. The former X Factor winner went on to explain that she hopes to settle down in around two years' time, saying, "I know exactly where I want to get married, it's a beautiful place in Europe. I'd like to be married just before I'm 30, when I'm 29, but I don't know if it will happen."

Should Lewis and Payne get together, they'd be one hell of a rich couple. According to the Sunday Times Rich List, the songstress is worth around £12 million, while Payne's group One Direction are said to already be worth £30 million.

Congratulations One Direction, You're Now Worth £26 Million

One Direction Daniel Radcliffe Adele Leona Lewis Cheryl Cole Rupert Grint

The members of One Direction have displaced the likes of Adele, Cheryl Cole and Leona Lewis in the annual list of Britain's richest under-30s. Though we've no idea how Heat magazine managed to get hold of the bank details of the X Factor stars, they've apparently earned a combined £26.33 million since arriving on the pop music scene.

It means Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik are in at No.5 on the list - which seems slightly unfair to those relegated this year. Anyone can lump five very rich people together and say they're a collective moneymaking outfit, watch us. Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and Brad Pitt. Anyway, the rules seem to have been bent for the young pop-stars, who knocked Rupert Grint out of the No.5 spot (though Grint teamed up with Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson would be another matter). It was in fact Radcliffe who continued to dominate the chart with a net fortune of £53.33 million. Robert Pattinson moved up to No.2 with £38.73 million, while Keira Knightley was No.3 with £32.7 million.

One Direction become worldwide stars after their debut album Up All Night topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Their second record Take Me Home is scheduled for release on 12 November 2012, once again through Syco Records.

Already In The Bag: One Direction Win At MTV Europe Music Awards 2012

One Direction have won one of the biggest awards at the 2012 MTV European Music Awards. Don’t panic though, there’s still roughly a month to go until the actual event but MTV have already announced that One Direction have been named Best UK/ Ireland Act of the Year.

Louis Tomlinson spoke on behalf of the band to thank their fans for voting for them, telling MTV News, “We're so happy and incredibly honoured to have won this. Once again our amazing fans have done us proud – thanks so much as always to you all” said Tomlinson.

The awards ceremony itself is scheduled to take place in Frankfurt on November 11, 2012 and will be hosted by the supermodel Heidi Klum. Amongst the musical highlights of the evening are Taylor Swift and No Doubt. Taylor Swift will be making her EMA debut and said “I’ve always wanted to go to the EMA, because you hear about the spectacle of it, and how everyone just goes all out for their performances. To be nominated for five EMAs was the most exciting feeling, and I was absolutely blown away. I can’t wait to be there this year and perform on the show!”

Leona Lewis: My Version Of 'We Found Love' Is Better Than Rihanna

Leona Lewis Rihanna

Leona Lewis has told the Daily Star that she was the first to lend her vocals to "We Found Love" - the smash hit, penned by Calvin Harris and ultimately released with Rihanna's vocals. In the same interview, the 27-year-old X Factor winner was also quoted as saying:

"I didn't commit to it because I wanted Trouble to be my first single so I think that was another reason they went with Rihanna. It was the same version and production but mine's better."

Liam Payne And Leona Lewis Share The X-Factor Love

Leona Lewis Liam Payne One Direction

Two X-Factor giants, Leona Lewis and Liam Payne, seem to be flirting via the headlines, with Lewis stating her affection for the One Direction Star.

Talking to The Mirror, Leona admitted: “He is a really sweet, lovely guy. I’m a fan of One Direction. We have been friends for a year-and-a-half,” which has sparked rumours that the pair might be getting together. Payne didn’t do anything to dampen any reports, either, by saying: “I do have a crush on Leona, she's hot! I have met her. She's hot. I haven't eaten dinner with her though.” So, are the pair set for a romance made on the X-Factor stage? Well, Leona has confirmed the split between her and German dancer boyfriend due to her busy schedule, and Mr. Payne is single, but it looks like previous heartbreak might have put Leona Lewis, the ‘Bleeding Love’ singer off serious relationships for a while. “I’m quite a free spirit. I like having my own space and being able to do whatever I want without having anyone to answer to,” she explained. “I’ve had my heart broken so many times. It’s so awful. You need your friends, ice-cream and good movies.”

Perhaps she is alluding to her break up with Lou Al-Chamaa in 2010. The pair had been together for 7 years, before the ex-electrician became disconcerted with Leona’s star status, and things came to an end.

Liam Payne Plays Down Links With Leona Lewis; Still Wants To Be Friends With Ex

Liam Payne Leona Lewis

As rumours swirl around the relationship status of One Direction's Liam Payne, the teenage pop star himself has moved quickly to quell rumours that he's quickly moved on from his recent split with Danielle Peazer with Leona Lewis, admitting that the pair have been for a drink but that he didn't want to hurt his ex-girlfriend by jumping straight into another relationship. The Metro reports that the 19 year-old told the print edition of The Sun that he hoped to remain friends with Peazer.

"Danielle is great" he opened up. "I really hope we can still be friends". He also revealed that he'd been in touch with her recently, saying "I bought her a car for her birthday, but she really isn't fussed by money or fame." He also recalled a time where she wouldn't ask for money from the star to get her hair dyed, even though she couldn't afford it.

Rumours about Lewis and Payne stem from reports that the pair got together when the 27 year-old was giving him career advice, but according to a source rumours that they're an item are somewhat embellished. "To call it dating at the moment is a little far down the line" the insider said. "They've seen each other a few times."

Lightbody Talks Leona's Run

Gary Lightbody Leona Lewis

SNOW PATRIOL frontman Gary Lightbody has been discussing Leona Lewis' cover version of their hit song Run.

The X-Factor winner recently released a studio version of the song after her live version for Radio 1 proved so popular.

Around 69,244 people downloaded the new version in the first two days of it being made available.

Speaking to Steve Lamacq, Lightbody praised the 23-year-old singer's interpretation of the track.

"The one thing I will say is if you are going to cover a song, do it differently from the original and that’s definitely the case," he said. "I think she’s got an amazing voice and it is what it is."

He added that it is "bizarre" that Leona's version is such a big hit, as the original composition is not yet very old.

"It's still a bit strange because it's not that old. Five, six years old, but it seems a bit soon," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Showbiz Spy recently reported that Leona is planning a traditional Christmas at home with her family.
