Leonardo Dicaprio is reportedly in talks to bring environmentally friendly superhero Captain Planet to the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions and studio Paramount are negotiating to buy the rights to the 1990s cartoon series.

'Scream Queens' star Glen Powell and his writing partner Jono Matt are said to be writing the screenplay, which will reportedly be set years after the 90s TV show, with Captain Planet now a ‘washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him’.

‘Captain Planet and the Planeteers' was an animated TV show which ran from September 1990 to December 1992.

It focused on five young people from all around the world who were sent magical rings that had the power to control natural elements.

When they combine their powers they can summon Captain Planet, a superhero who possesses all of their powers magnified and can help them fight against environmental evils.

The plot seems a perfect fit for DiCaprio who is known for his environmental activism.

The actor frequently speaks out on issues such as climate change and recently produced documentary Before the Flood.

In Before the Flood, DiCaprio was shown meeting with scientists, activists and world leaders to discuss the dangers of climate change and possible solutions.
