Actor Leonardo Dicaprio has come under criticism after he used a private jet to travel and collection an environmental award earlier this week. According to US Weekly, the actor took a took a private jet to New York City on Wednesday to accept the award and then returned to France on the plane just one day later.

DiCaprio was being honoured at the Riverkeeper Fishermen’s Ball in New York alongside fashion designer Ralph Lauren, The next day he attended the 2016 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Paris, where he auctioned off a week-long stay at his Palm Springs residence for $336,000.

A rep for the actor told US Weekly: “He was asked to speak at both Riverkeeper and amfAR events, but the only way to attend the two fundraisers was to hitch a ride with flights that were already planned. Leo helped both events raise millions, donated his own funds, auctioned off his house and had speaking roles in both programs.”
Earlier this year DiCaprio spoke about the issue of climate change during his Best Actor acceptance speech at the Oscars. “Climate change is real,” he told the audience. “It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species. We need to work together to stop procrastinating. ... Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted.”

It’s not the first time DiCaprio has been criticised for his own use of private jets. In 2014 he was accused of taking six trips on private jet during a six week period. That same year he also reportedly rented out the world’s fifth largest yacht to watch the World Cup in Brazil.
