The Wolf of Wall Street, starring Leonardo Dicaprio in one of the best roles in years, was the most pirated movie of the year. The Martin Scorsese comedy-drama and Disney's smash hit Frozen were both downloaded about 30 million times by torrent users worldwide.

Alfonso's Cuaron space-epic Gravity came in third with 29.4 million while The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was downloaded 27.6 million times and Marvel's Thor: The Dark World was downloaded 25.7 million times, according to piracy-tracking firm Excipio. Elsewhere in the Top 20 was 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle.

One issue that the trackers ran into was MGM's recent RoboCop reboot having the same name in 1987 version. Downloads for both movies combined reached almost 30 million, however, it's not clear how many of the downloads were for the most recent movie. Another potential duplicate was The Legend of Hercules and Hercules, the former a critical flop and the latter the big budget movie starring Dwayne Johnson.
