Pictures: Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman And Les Miserables Stars Turn Out In Force For London Premiere

Given that all it needed was for the bulk of the cast to turn up to make it a truly star-studded premiere, it was no surprise that the London opening of the Tom Hooper directed Les Miserables had a turn out that could be match by almost no other. With the likes of Gillian Anderson, Ellie Goulding, Steven Fry and Idris Elba looking on, the center stage was undoubtedly taken by stars of the movie Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Helena Bonham Carter.

The quartet looked stunning to a person, with Seyfried and Hathaway complimenting each other's looks, contrasting as they did with black and white outfits repsectively, both equally elegant. Crowe and Jackman meanwhile looked as solid as ever in suits, though the former seems to have put on a bit of weight recently, noticeable thanks to a shaven haircut. 

An uncharacteristically sullen-faced Sasha Baron Cohen turned up for the premiere. He plays Thenardier in the film.

Despite the relative lateness of its release in relation to the Oscars, there are still some saying that it could go the distance when the Academy gets round to announcing the nominees for the prestigious event. That said, just about every film with an inkling of credibility is getting similar treatment at the moment, and so it's hard to really tell many of the genuine candidates at this point.

One of the most successful plays of all time, with huge box office takings in Broadway and beyond throughout the 80's up to the present day, there was a lot of pressure on Universal with the new film. There have been film version of the 1862 Victor Hugo novel before, but none with a budget quite as big as $61 million, nor with such a high profile cast and crew. The film is released on Christmas Day in the US.
