Liam Hemsworth has landed the lead role in 'Cut Bank'.

The actor will star as 25-year-old mechanic-turned-athlete Dwayne McLaren, alongside the likes of John Malkovich, Sir Ben Kingsley, Michael Sheen and Teresa Palmer in the upcoming thriller, which will be directed by Matt Shakman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story - which was written by Roberto Patino - follows Dwayne as he attempts to turn his back on his home town of Cut Bank, Montana, but his dreams of escaping the coldest city in America are shattered when a series of deadly events change his life and the city of Cut Bank forever.

Liam, who hit the big time with his role as Gale Hawthorne in 'The Hunger Games', is set to reprise his role in the eagerly anticipated 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' in November and will also appear in summer release 'Paranoia'.

The movie marks director Shakman's first feature film project after previously helming episodes of 'Mad Men' and 'Six Feet Under'.

The film will be produced by Edward Zwikc, Mickey Barold and Dan Cohen.

Filming for 'Cut Bank' kicked off on June 12 in Alberta, Canada, but a release date is yet to be set.
