On Saturday (February 27th) rumours of a romance between Liam Payne and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini blew up the internet, with heartbroken One Direction fans refusing to believe it could be true. But while neither has said anything regarding the rumours, Liam has now changed his Instagram profile picture to a cozy snap with Cheryl, which seems to confirm they are in fact an item.

The pair’s romance was first reported by The Sun, with a source telling the newspaper: “This is the real deal. Cheryl and Liam are in a relationship. It was unexpected but they’ve both made each other incredibly happy.”

A friend of the couple added: "Cheryl has obviously known Liam for many years. They’ve always got on well because they are both northern and share many of the same interests. But there was never anything romantic between them in the past.”

After changing his Instagram profile pic to one with Cheryl, the One Direction star’s bio now simply reads, ‘Happy’. Earlier on Sunday (February 28th), tabloids published what is reported to be the first picture of the couple, taken by a fan in a Tesco in Guildford.

The fan who snapped the pic (which shows what is said to be the couple from behind), captioned it: “It was definitely Cheryl and Liam but unfortunately I didn't get a picture. They were in my local Tesco in Guildford at midnight.” However many fans on twitter are dubious that it is the famous pair.

The pair are also reported to have enjoyed a romantic getaway earlier this month, to a private Caribbean resort. An insider told The Mirror: “They’ve come from the same place and totally understand each other and the pressures each of them has, so there is no need to put on a front.”

Meanwhile Cheryl’s husband Jean-Bernard, who the singer is said to be divorcing, took to Instagram with a cryptic message on Saturday evening. “I never knew how strong I was until I had to forgive someone who wasn’t sorry, and accept an apology I never received,” he wrote, alongside a picture of a lion.
