Liev Schreiber has joined the cast of Hockey movie 'Goon'.
The 'Scream' actor has signed up to play tough guy Ross Reardon in the comedy, which is loosely based on the book 'Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey' by Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio.
Schreiber joins 'American Pie' actor Seann William Scott and Canadian star Jay Baruchel, as well as Alison Pill and Marc-Andre Grondin in the film, which begins shooting in Winnipeg, Canada, next week.
Written by Baruchel and 'Superbad' producer Evan Goldberg, the indie comedy tells the tale of a bouncer who joins a lowly hockey team, leading them to new-found success.
Meanwhile, Michael Dowse - who is most famed for his work on 2004 comedy 'It's All Gone Pete Tong' - will direct the project.
Schreiber - who has two children, Sasha, three, and 22-month-old Samuel with actress girlfriend Naomi Watts - is likely to enjoy the comedic role after he recently admitted he and Daniel Craig got "really silly" while filming war movie 'Defiance'.
He said: "I was really impressed that Daniel Craig was this major motion picture star who didn't go to his trailer in between takes. I'm accustomed to that with A-list actors. They go to their trailer and then we all wait for them to come out. But Daniel didn't. He sat with us and told stories and we had snowball fights and we bonded. Actually we got really silly. We spent a lot of time being silly."
