The Downton Abbey castmember was catapulted to international stardom after landing the lead role in the latest big screen adaptation of the classic fairytale, and she dealt with her newfound fame by swapping five-star hotels for budget accommodation on a low-key trip.

She tells Net-a-porter.com, "I remember coming back from that tour, walking down the street to go to the shops, and realising I hadn't brought my wallet with me. Everything had been managed by other people for so long I forgot how to do it myself. I ended up backpacking with a friend in south-east Asia, staying in huts that were £2 a night, to regain my sanity."
